After I replaced my MacBook Pro 2012 Retina Battery today with iFixit, my right speaker is now crackling. The only thing I changed was the battery and no other cables or board was touched.

Sometimes other things break in the process or just the movement of your actions sets things off. Time to replace the speaker MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2012-Mid 2015) Right Speaker

This seems to be a misalignment issue of the new battery (a common fault) or when removing the old battery accidentally denting the fragile speaker cones causing the rattle. These Retina 2012 macs had terrible speakers to begin with anyway. If the distortion occurs even at low volume it's almost certainly a torn cone.
Or on a more positive note maybe it's a loose speaker screw that needs tightening.
