GE Ventless Dryer GFT14ESSL0WW will spin but not heat

I have a GE Ventless Dryer GFT14ESSL0WW. Like the title says the dryer will spin but not heat up. What are some of the common issue with this model? Anyone here got this same issue?

Hi @gedryerowner

I haven't got the model but usually with dryers the most common problems with no heating are either a faulty heater element, a faulty hi-limit thermostat or a faulty exhaust or outlet thermostat

The wiring diagram for the dryer is GE part number 31-16914 but unfortunately I cannot locate a download online. According to the GE website: "The wiring diagram (mini-manual/schematic) is packaged with each model. The most common location for dryers is inside the control panel". If it is there this will help you to find out what's wrong.

If you find the problem is a faulty part that needs replacing, here's a parts list that is useful.

Locate the wanted part in the list and you'll find that the manufacturer's part number is listed with it. Search online for the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

@gedryerowner

if you have a DMM (digital multimeter) you can use its Ohmmeter function to test if both components have continuity as they should or not.

I don't know what the specific resistance value of the heater element is but they're usually between 50-200 Ohms. The outlet thermostat should test short circuit i.e. 0.00 Ohms and not open circuit i.e. OL or infinite Ohms on meter

Do this with the power disconnected from the dryer and the components disconnected from the wiring harness.

Also according to GE there should be a wiring diagram located inside the control panel which would make fault finding easier.

If there is one and you need more help, post an image of it back here in your "question" above. Here's how on ifixit Bilder zu einer vorhandenen Frage hinzufügen

@jayeff One last question, should the control board (https://www.geapplianceparts.com/store/p...) be similar to this picture with a green color background? Mine comes with a brown color background. I just hope it is not burnt out for any reason.

@gedryerowner

If it's a uniform brown colour then this is just the colour of the board they used.

It's very common. Circuit boards are either green or brown, depends on the manufacturer what they use.

If it is a brown colour with darker patches then the dark patches may be where components have gotten hot (too hot) due to a fault and this is the reason why the colour looks different at that point i.e. scorched but not black. But it is never all over.

Cheers

@jayeff I replaced both of these parts (WE11X26400 & WE04X26348). It worked. Thanks for the advice!
