Can you install a larger hard drive?

I would like to use my old nano again (my classic was dropped in a puddle and lost for a few months in the snow) but 2gb is not nearly enough. Are there any larger hard drives out there that will fit?

even tough you can with the EXACT memory used, the recall and battery safety issue is more important then a memory add-on, you don't want it to explode in your pocket

and you need to be able to solder WELL

I had a 2gig 1st gen. Nano and got an 8 gig unit in the bad batt exchange program.

While I prefer the shape & size of the older Nano, it's nice getting 6gigs more storage for free!

This iPod is recalled, get it replaced

If it was not, you could not unless you could solder well and get the exact memory for it

it's not a fiesable project, with the recall, get the iPod replaced with the link

Matthew Johnson,it is not possible. The Nano does not use hard drive. It stores all the information to a NAND memory IC that is an integrated part of the logic board.

some of this information is wrong, the memory is not directly soldered to the board but instead the memory chips are part of some sort of IC module that can be easily removed. i expect it would be possible to exchange the memory between two of these ipods. i wonder however if i could switch with a larger chip into my 2gb

Richard Felten, tell us more about "instead the memory chips are part of some sort of IC module that can be easily removed." I would really like to see that module.....I think you got some bad information about this somewhere.

Here's a good image of the logic board and the soldered on flash chips (two larger chips) Nano logic bd
