S10e microphone not working on calls

The microphone is not working when I do a call with it.

If during the call I use the speaker option, or connect a headset with microphone, it works with no problem.

If I try to record anything with the record app, it works with no problem.

If I dial *#0283# both works, if I hold the phone in call position, and talk, both microphones duplicate my voice, but the second one (top of phone) is actually stronger than the bottom one although is next to my voice.

I have tried using other voice apps, they sound similarly. Curiously, calls through whatsapp do not suffer this problem, only via phone.

Could be a cleaning issue? Could be a noise cancellation issue? A software issue? Is there any way to fix this via software or hardware other than using speaker/headset in all calls?

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Thank you for your answer, it does has taken me a while to go through all of it.

It does not look like a software issue.

The problem persist if:

* Try a different calling app (google voice)

* Call in safe mode

* After factory Reset

HOWEVER, I have found, if I cover the microphone on the top side of the phone, whilst I call, the other person can hear me fine.

What I think it is happening is:

# For an unknown reason, the microphone on the bottom it is registering very low levels when I speak

# So low, that the noise cancellation think it is noise, and remove it. Making it look like it does not work.

---

I have tried cleaning the microphone on the bottom part, but it is too narrow, and I can't really do anything other than using a needle, but can't get anything out.

If you have any information on how could the microphone get broken or if there is any solution that involves not opening, please post it here. I might eventually try to resolder, but not at the moment.

Thank you all.

@calamari8860 could be a software issue. I'd try a safe mode first and see if that resolves it. If it does, you know it is a third party app that causes the issue. Delete those one by one until you find the one that caused the issues. Use these instructions for that.

If that does not work, I would backup all the files and then try a factory reset. You will need your Google account and password that you used when you setup your phone. Use the Samsung instructions on how to reset your software.

If none of the software updates and reinstall does not resolve this, consider this a hardware issue. I'd start by following the flowcharts for your phone

and to find the components to test, use this Component Layout and use the search function on your PDF reader to locate them on the board.

@calamari8860 since you do not want to open it, check the mic's first. Try to get into the Audio Loopback Control by dialing *#0283# and see if the mic's pass the test. If they don't you know that you will need to replace whichever mic has failed.

Both of them work in that test. However the RCV_DualMic sounds much less louder than the SPK_2ndMic (when holding the phone next to the ear like in a call).

The microphone, also works in a recording app.

It is only the calls (Without speaker) when it does not work, or actually, it works very bad, like the noise cancelling is making everything silence, or like it has very bad signal.

The moment I set up the speaker, or I cover the top microphone with my finger, is back to work.

@calamari8860 sounds like a hardware issue. Now you would have to follow the troubleshooting flowcharts to work on the components.

Do we know why does it fail that piece of hardware? Would be a resoldering work fine or require a change of microphone?

I have seen they are inexpensive, but I wonder why does it fail. I have seen this is a common issue when investigating, and I can say I have not done anything that could mess up with it.

The phone had a battery change and a charging port change.

@calamari8860 could be a manufacturing issue but could also be that they just fail because of design or wear. The biggest issue with any component are always environmental issues. Heat/cold/humidity etc., all effect those components. That is why they are so inexpensive.
