Battery not charging, MagSafe light stays green, battery indicator ok

Hi,

One day I try to start my mbp but it "clicks" and died off every time the power button is pressed with the magsafe adaptor on.

I thought the battery might have finally died after 10 yrs of usage.

I changed the battery. Now the system can boot up with 75% new battery charge but the the indicator show " battery is not charging, Power adaptor, ON.

The magsafe adaptor green light is ON all the moment. The side battery indicator LED lights up whenever the button is pressed.

When I attached the magsafe, immediately I can see the battery indicator lights up and the last LED would blink twice and then the whole indicator faded out.

The magsafe light has never turn amber before.

I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM but to no avail.

Will changing the DC in board works in this situation?

I'm afraid the new battery is totally drained out and then I can't even start up the machine.

Ouch! The charging MOSFETs are likely damaged on the logic board and will need replacement.

If the MagSafe charger LED was not lighting up at all then that might have been the case.


You could give the socket a clean using some 90% Iso and a cotton swab, making sure the dirt is not caked up along the inside corners and the contacts where clean of dirt or corrosion.


Do you have a hall light that has two switches on at the top and bottom of the stairs? Did you ever face a bad switch not knowing which switch was bad often just replacing both unless you have a volt meter or continuity meter (if powered off) to see which leg was not getting power.


MOSFET's act like the hall switches, switching between the two power sources to power the logic board and charging the battery. It wasn't uncommon for them to fail often times the knockoff chargers or a sizable static discharge into the MagSafe port damaged them in this series.

@alex54437 common issue with this is a faulty charging IC which is a ISL6259 or with the one wire circuit. If you would like to try to check and possibly troubleshoot (repair your board), post some good images of both sides of it, with your Question. That way we can see what you see. You'll need a decent voltmeter for this. Start by checking ACIN to see if U7000 even sees the charger....etc, etc, etc. My money is on U7000 since that is a very common issue and it explains your MBP's behavior.

If not, then you could either find somebody who can do the repair for you or just replace the board as previously suggested
