Power Button won't work

Got a broken screen iPad 2, ordered the parts and did the repair myself. I have done multiple iPad 2 screens, so I am pretty familiar with it. This time, however, I seemed to have clipped the Power Button/Volume Button flex cable when getting the broken screen off. Went ahead and bought a new cable. Just installed it so that I could get the iPad back together and came across a really weird issue. Actually I ordered 2 power button flex cables. When I put it on and clipped it in the volume buttons work and the mute switch works, but the power button does not. I unplugged it from the board and plugged it back in. Nothing. Cannot get it to bring up power off info and cannot get it to lock/unlock. Tried the 2nd cable I purchased thinking maybe it was a bad cable...same exact thing. Any ideas?

Update

Apparently the flex cable was defective. Supplier sent new ones and they work great. Thanks!

It's really weird too. When I press and hold the power button and the home button for a reset it keeps looping the apple logo and won't actually boot...until I unplug the new cable. Once unplugged it will reboot.

if both cables are from the same company maybe it's a bad batch??

I removed the portion of the logic board where the power flex cable connects and unplugged and reconnected the cable. Same thing as before happened. Tried the other cable as well to no avail. I went ahead and contacted the supplier. They are sending new cables. Thank you.

it may be a properly fitting problem inside the ipad. dismantle the ipad and take out the power cable from the ipad. attach everything together not to put back inside . just leave it there on the it . then try to use power button outside . if that working then try to make a proper fitting inside that switch. if still not working the power button then it may be a that flex or may be you had damage anything on the logic baord . upload the picture of logic board with high resolution to check anything happen to board or not . Best of luck

Yeah. For small parts I do use eBay suppliers from time to time

Usually don't run into issues. But for some reason they were a bad batch of cables.

I have had similar issues, replaced the digitizer on an IPad 2 and now the lock/unlock button isn't working. I have tried three different cables including the one that came with it. Any ideas?

It is possible as well that you may have damaged a jumper or circuit on the smaller logic board during removal of the flex cable or reinstallation. I have had one of my repair techs do this. Caused one of the buttons to not work.

I've had many ipads come into me with this issue caused by another person or shop. Assuming this is not software related and hardware only, its's not a difficult fix. The power button/volume button connector is near the top of the logic board. If this connector is damaged leading to discontinuity, you are going to need a microscope to solder a new connector on (very time consuming and risky) . In this case, the previous service this person went to had the home button flex to logic board connector pulled off and almost her connector for the power button/volume buttons to logic board as well. The home button to logic board connector I have already replaced and works great. The power button flex also looked a little scratched and the top of the connector was chipped, making me think that the previous person who worked on this had an issue getting the flex in. The flex just needed to be pushed in further into the connector as you can see and the flex didn't need replacing nor the connector. After this, I was able to get hers and others lock feature back and you should too.
