Background and Identification
The Sony BDV-NF620 is a home theater system featuring a main Blu-ray player unit as well as two speakers and a subwoofer. The main unit is made from black plastic and has a curved-top shape similar to a PS3 Super Slim. One side of the device has a notch cut out of it, and the optical drive slot is located on the sliced edge. The BDV-NF620 has support for many types of discs, including CDs, SA-CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs. The unit also has a built-in amplifier so it can output directly to speakers without the need for additional hardware.
On the back of the device, the BDV-NF620 has two HDMI ports for video input and both digital/analog audio output options. The two included speakers and the subwoofer hook up to the Blu-ray unit via 4.2 mm jacks on the back of the device. As Sony shows in the product’s user manual, the two speakers are meant to sit near the front of the room on either side of the listener. The subwoofer is supposed to be positioned closer to the center, but its exact location is less important.
To identify this device, look on the bottom for an informational sticker containing the line “Model No. BDV-NF620” or “System No. BDV-NF620.” Although Sony sold the system with a specific pair of speakers and an amplifier, you can use other speakers with the base unit—just note that the speaker wires need to be terminated in a 4.2 mm jack to connect with the main unit.
