Content Moderation
Policies. User-generated content on iFixit (including repair guides, comments, forum posts, and wiki edits) must comply with our Community Guidelines and Terms of Use. Content that is illegal under applicable law, or that violates these policies, may be removed or restricted.
How we moderate. We use a combination of:
- Automated tools — spam filters and automated flags for content matching known patterns of abuse. These tools flag content for review; final decisions on removal or restriction are made by human reviewers except in clear-cut spam cases.
- Human review — staff review flagged content, user reports, and content submitted through the notice mechanism below.
Restrictions we may apply: removal of content, suspension of posting privileges, or account termination for serious or repeated violations.
Reporting Illegal Content (Art. 16)
If you believe content on iFixit is illegal under EU law, you may submit a notice to legal@ifixit.com containing:
- Your name and contact information
- A description of the content and why you consider it illegal, with a reference to the applicable legal provision
- The URL or other identifier of the content
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the information is accurate
We will acknowledge receipt, review the notice, and inform you of our decision and the reasons for it in a timely manner.
Complaint Handling (Art. 20)
If your content was removed or restricted, or if your report of illegal content was not acted upon, you may file a complaint:
- How: Email legal@ifixit.com with the subject line "DSA Complaint"
- Cost: Free
- Format: Electronic; include the original notice or moderation decision reference
- Process: Complaints are reviewed by a human (not solely by automated means). We will communicate our reasoned decision without undue delay.
Out-of-Court Dispute Settlement (Art. 21)
If you disagree with our decision on a complaint, you may refer the matter to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under Art. 21 DSA. A list of certified bodies is maintained by the EU Digital Services Coordinators. We will engage in good faith with any certified body you select. This does not affect your right to bring proceedings before a competent court.
Transparency Reporting (Art. 15, 24)
We will publish an annual transparency report covering:
- Content moderation actions taken (removals, restrictions, account suspensions)
- Notices received under Art. 16 and actions taken
- Complaints received under Art. 20 and outcomes
- Use of automated tools in content moderation, including accuracy and error rates
- Average monthly active recipients of our service in the EU
The first report will be published by February 2027, covering the period from the date this notice takes effect.
Average Monthly Active EU Users
As required by Art. 24(2) DSA, we publish our average monthly active EU recipient count at least once every six months.
Current figure (January 2025 – December 2025): Approximately 675,000 average monthly active recipients in the EU. This is well below the 45 million threshold for designation as a very large online platform (VLOP) under Art. 33 DSA.
