Greetings to fellow fixers and internet denizens! I'm a Product Engineer at iFixit.
I graduated from Cal Poly in the Spring of 2012 with a degree in General Engineering. Some time before that, I spent a year learning Marine Engineering at Cal Maritime, where I got to work on big diesel engines and visit South America on the Training Ship Golden Bear:
After transferring to Cal Poly, I quickly got into Mechatronics, a multidisciplinary field of engineering that focuses on the combination of several kinds of engineering to design awesome systems, like this polar plotter, built in about four weeks with a near-zero budget:
For my senior project, I modified a model sailboat to operate autonomously, using all sorts of exciting electronics and programming:
I enjoy being a nerd, and I like to think it means being someone who takes their interests seriously. These are some of my interests, in an aesthetically pleasing order:
- Science fiction, in print and moving pictures
- Embedded programming and electronics
- Fixing things
- Breaking things
- Internet memes, media, and comics
- Traveling, hiking, boating, naturey things

Antwort auf „ssd size surface pro2”Hi jonargabuna, the SSD is a 1.8" PCIe mSATA drive. They seem to be pretty hard to come by! I think that for the most part they're only sold to OEMs for laptops and tablets such as this. You might try your luck on ebay. Good luck!
Antwort auf „iMac EMC No not found in iFixit”Hi mogaaxon, Lately, iMacs have had very few differences between year revisions. Our Late 2013 EMC 2638 guides should work fine for your model: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2638 & EMC 2742 Late 2013 Repair You shouldn't encounter any significant differences. If you do, let me know!
Antwort auf „What Screen do I order?”Hi Andy! There are several variants of the iPad 2, but they all use the same replacement glass and display. If only the glass is broken, and the display beneath it is still fine, here's the part you need: iPad 2 Screen Digitizer Assembly If the display is broken as well, you'll also need a replacement LCD: iPad 2 LCD This guide should be all you need to get through the repair: iPad 2 Wi-Fi EMC 2415 Front Panel austauschen Good luck!
Antwort auf „Heatsink for 2nd processor”Hi Matt, the Northbridge heatsink is named for the Northbridge chip on the logic board: "Northbridge is an Intel chipset that communicates with the computer processor and controls interaction with memory, the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus, Level 2 cache, and all Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) activities. Northbridge communicates with the processor using the frontside bus (FSB)." So the Northbridge heatsink only works with that chip, and not the main CPUs. I did some ebay searching myself and found a few CPU heatsinks in the $20-30 range. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mac-Pro-2006-2007-2008-6-Copper-Pipe-Heatsink-/331564691271?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash...) Hope this helps, and good luck!
Antwort auf „Use spare parts (DVD, HD) of old mac as external devices?”Hi charliebigpot, you can definitely make use of those components! We have a cable specifically for converting optical drives to USB: SATA Optical Drive USB Cable For the hard drive, this product turns your drive into an external hard drive: Silicone 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure with USB 2.0 Cable
Antwort auf „Identify this cable near the battery, on bottom right?”That's the battery indicator cable, it powers the little button and row of LEDs on the left side of your Mac that display the battery's charge level. It's disconnected in this guide.
Antwort auf „What holds the new glass on?”It's the same adhesive as in previous generation iPad Minis; you can check out the glass replacement guide here to see it.
Antwort auf „Car shut off while driving with no warning”If it doesn't crank, you probably have a dead battery. Because it failed while driving, I would guess that your battery isn't charging—you could have a bad alternator, or alternator wiring. Try jumpstarting the car, or recharging the battery and starting it. Many auto parts stores will charge your battery and test your alternator for free.
Antwort auf „Broken menorah screws stripped”Hi Morry, I'm sure it can be fixed! There are a lot of things you can do to deal with stripped screws. Take a look at our guide for some options. If you can share a photo of the screws, we can provide some more specific tips. Once you get the screws out, you'll probably want to replace them with new ones—if you bring one to your local hardware store as a sample, they can probably help you find something.
Antwort auf „What model do I have?”You have an iPod Touch 4th Generation. I looked into it, and while the first two revisions of the 4th gen Touch only came in 8, 32, or 64 GB, the final end-of-product version, released in 2012, was available in 16 or 32 GB sizes. All four sizes will have the same guides and procedures, so you can follow the link to the device page on the top right. We'll get the identification tool updated, thanks for finding that issue!
