Checked the inside of my mac again after reading some posts and it seems like it's a broken LVDS cable (looks like it broke off some pins when I tried to wiggle it back in). Maybe this helps anyone with the same problem.
Hey, sorry to dig this up, but exactly the same issue here. I took my MacBook Pro 15", 2011 apart to replace the keyboard (so most of it went out and back in). I tried to stick closely to the ifixit manual (and one website) to dis- and reassemble the MBP. Everything seems to work, as does the external Monitor, but the internal one stays grey. Can you suggest a next step? I tried all the steps on the official Apple site for a problem like this (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204325). Please help!
Replaced my CPU and got into trouble: My iMac won’t boot. When turning it on, three LEDs light up, but not #4. The LCD is connected though. I even had a different LCD connected, same story. Put the old CPU back in, same story. What could be wrong?
There seem to be different versions of the ribbon cable, visibly different at the screwholes - one is thinner with metal as screwholes, the other one completely black and the screwholes are more a part of the cable itself. Which one is newer / better / recommended?
Can somebody tell me what kind of screws I would need to secure the new battery? I would like to put screws into the screwholes left open by those rubber grommets.
