Liquid damage is a real problem. If it occurred, and no matter if the liquid dried in the meantime, it could have caused shorts and corrosion of traces and components. Having said this, have you tried the usual stuff such as SMC and PRAM reset? SMC = while the charger is plugged in, press simultaneously shift+ctrl+alt keys and power button and keep them pressed for 5-10 secs, release them and try to switch the machine on. PRAM = power up the machine and press cmd+alt+p+r on the keyboard before the boot chime. Keep the keys pressed until you hear the chime 2 or 3 times, then release the keys and let it boot. Good luck.
The cable is just a v-sync. If it’s bad or disconnected, the only “reaction” should be a sort of “trace” left on the screen when dragging windows, not a completely dark screen. That is, the screen should work even without v-sync cable.
