I've noticed that there is no brightness control in the control panel (OS 10.4.11), even though the usb ports work fine...

I had quite an issue with my 1998 Honda Civic HX, told me the oxygen sensor was lazy, even for a new sensor. Turned out that the ECM needed more recent firmware, but an update was not possible. Ended up getting a replacement ECM which cured the problem.
Mehr erfahrenI find techron good at keeping things clean; at over 200,000 mi the engine still idles smoothly.
Mehr erfahrenI had this issue; I ended up buying a second hand speedometer and swapping out the circuit board, that way I kept the original mileage. Has worked great ever since.
Mehr erfahrenRadio-Shack have a very nice iron with a hole in the tip; I found this makes working on the G5 iMac board much easier, as it heats all round the lead. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.... I recently re-capped a G5 iMac board, and it went very smoothly thanks to this $12 iron. Replacing the capacitors can be done without having to clear the holes, by cutting the leads short so they can be pushed in with a little pressure as one heats from the other side.
Mehr erfahrenIt is very important to get low ESR replacements
Mehr erfahrenThe iMac G5 does not have a dual voltage supply, so it was blown; hopefully nothing else was harmed.
Mehr erfahrenBest to open up the power supply and take a look at the capacitors there, I'd say the power supply is more likely to fail than the motherboard and a bad supply will put out ripple the mother board will try and smooth, so yes, conversely, the mother board probably helps the power supply out.
Mehr erfahrenGood to know, I may just fix the 1.8GHz unit and leave the 1.6GHz units alone. I am getting to like the Samxon capacitors and will try those. http://www.capsmod.net/caps/ bigpope.samxon@gmail.com has the caps for the iMac G5 but they are not on the list, and the price is a bit high.
Mehr erfahrenI was wondering which G5 iMacs fail the most (the mother board not the power supply) The 1.8GHz or 1.6GHz
Mehr erfahren$60 seems very reasonable for the repair of a power supply. I now have a 1.8GHz iMac G5 that is showing instabilities (on a rebuilt supply) and while the mother-board capacitors look fine, they seem to run too hot and I will replace those. My other 3 G5 iMacs (1.6GHz) are doing fine and their motherboard capacitors seems to run a lot cooler. All 4 rebuilt power supplies are doing fine.
