Hello! My name is Jazmine, and I am currently a sophomore at EWU.

I am majoring in Psychology, minoring in Technical Communication, and working towards a Design User certificate. My aspiration is to help adolescents by creating a SEL (Social Emotional Learning) curriculum that will help prevent suicide among this age group. I believe that learning how to take care of one’s well-being can have a significant impact. To help me share this idea with the world, I want to improve my writing, communication, and leadership skills as much as possible to support my future research.

Outside of my career, I want to be able to fix things myself, as I am very independent. This is one of the reasons I think iFixit is so great. The iFixit Technical Writing project will be a fun experience and a great way to engage in active learning in my technical communications class. I am also looking forward to learning more about the iFixit organization and how they plan to implement their mission of reducing waste by repairing items and extending their lifespan.

A similar project to the iFixit Technical Writing project took place during a summer intersection workshop in my high school. We got to assemble robots and write code for them using an associated app that connected to the robots via Bluetooth. The code allowed us to drive the robots. Another project that was challenging but not impossible was putting together the desk, vanity, and nightstand I ordered online. Additionally, I had the project of fixing my vacuum when it was clogged and not picking anything up. I had to take the bottom apart and replace the filter, and it worked again.

These are all good examples of when it might have been helpful to know about iFixit!
