My name is Geoff (Top Gear anyone?), and I'm an iFixit technical writer. I'm currently a fourth year Computer Engineering student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, but I originally hail from Norco (AKA Horsetown U.S.A), a rural community in Southern California.
What do I do at iFixit?
I get to take apart the latest and greatest tech gizmos, as well as help run iFixit's EDU program. I've always been a huge computer nerd, so iFixit is the perfect fit for me. My first official teardown was the Project Tango Tablet, and I can't wait to see what newfangled devices I get to take apart in the coming years.
What do I do with my free time?
When I'm not busy bringing awesome DIY repair goodness to the internet, I love to work on my car, enjoy the outdoors, dabble in photography, and spend an inordinate amount of time playing video games.

Antwort auf „Can I swap the monitor between 2012 and 2011 model?”Hey marcinjak9 , I can't find anything explicitly stating that they're compatible, but according to this Answers thread: "I'm trying to find the difference between 661-5868 and a 661-6594", someone was able to swap an early 2011 display on to a mid 2012 MBP. I imagine that it should work the other way as well, but don't quote me on that. The actual procedure of replacing the display is the same across both models, so it definitely can't hurt to try it!
Antwort auf „Why am I getting constant random adds?”Hey Michael, When exactly did this start happening? Did you happen to install a new app around the same time that it started happening? As far as I know, Amazon only shows their ads on the lockscreen of Kindles with "Special Offers", and not on the home screen or in apps. I would try uninstalling your recently installed apps to see if that fixes the issue. If that doesn't help, I'd recommend trying to factory reset your tablet. This will reset your Kindle to how it was when you first got it, which should wipe away those advertisements.
Antwort auf „Is it possible to replace the camera in my Nvidia Shield Tablet?”Hey Mark! I'm not sure if you're still looking to replace the camera(s), but we now have a guide on how to replace the front and rear-facing cameras on your Nvidia Shield Tablet. Check it out!
Antwort auf „For what are those pins on the backside?”Hey Tim! OnePlus claims that those two pins "...let the system recognize the StyleSwap and change the theme on H2OS.". In other words, H2OS will change the system theme to match the StyleSwap cover that you have attached.
Antwort auf „Difficulty of disassembling the Apple Watch?”We're doing a live teardown of it now, so check it out!
Antwort auf „How to add AUX connection?”Hey Chen! What year Corolla do you have? To my knowledge, all Corollas after 2009 have AUX inputs. If your Corolla doesn't have one, the easiest way to add one would be to install a stereo that has a AUX input.
Antwort auf „Transfer pictures to phone from Covert field camera”Hey Hunter, If you want to get your photos from your camera to your phone, the easiest way would be to plug your camera/SD card into your computer, and transfer them onto your computer. Depending on what phone you have, you should be able to plug your phone into your computer via USB, and transfer the photos from your computer to your phone.
Antwort auf „Samsung Galaxy S4 Active keeps turning off every ten minutes”Hey Jose, Does it shut off at exactly ten minutes every time? If so, it sounds like some sort of software issue. Have you installed any new apps or updated your phone recently?
Antwort auf „Will SATA HardDrive Cable work with a 2014 mac mini?”Edit: It looks like another thread about this topic exists, check it out here. Thanks for the heads-up pavloscraig!
Antwort auf „GPU update iMac 2011”Hey Adrian, I found the thread on MacRumors that you pulled those pictures from. GMacUser was able to upgrade to a 680m, and it seems to have worked pretty well for him. However, a 680m MXM is $500-600 online, and a 780m MXM is even more. Additionally, it looks like the 780m that you want to upgrade to is going to take a lot more work to get up and running correctly. The 680m also has a higher TDP (thermal design power), which means more heat inside your iMac. In my opinion, this really isn't a cost-effective upgrade because the performance increase you'll get won't really justify the time and money spent on it.
