Common battery issues with the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse include the mouse not turning on, rapid power draining, performance lag, and inconsistent power levels. These issues with proper diagnosis can be fixed fairly easily with physical troubleshooting and software updates, and are listed in order of importance.
Dirty mouse laser and surface
Make sure the laser lens on the underside of the mouse is clean. Also, ensure the surface you're using is dust-free and clean. Tips for cleaning the mouse lens and desk:
- Use a lint-free cloth, dry cotton swab (optional: added isopropyl alcohol), or compressed air to remove dust and dirt from the lens.
- For the desk, clear it off and wipe with dry microfiber cloth for larger dirt particles, followed by a damp microfiber cloth for fine dust removal. Compressed air is another possible solution, spraying across the area of use.
Dark Color Surface
Using the mouse on dark and textured surfaces may cause the battery to drain faster. Try switching out the mousepad or area of use with a lighter colored surface.
Software Settings are Incorrect
Sometimes the rapid battery drain can be caused by high polling rates. To check and lower the polling rates, follow the instructions below:
- Launch Alienware Command Center.
- Click the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse image on the DASHBOARD.
- Go to the SYSTEM tab.
- Select ALIENFX PRESET.
- Choose SETTINGS from the right panel.
- Click DPI.
- The Polling Rate drop-down list is located at the bottom of the DPI level slider.
- Click the drop-down list.
- Select a lower polling rate.
- Click the Save Preset button.
Another option is to turn on battery saver mode, which automatically lowers the polling rates following Step 5:
- Go to Battery Settings
- Change battery saver threshold
Remember that lowering the polling rates or turning on battery saver mode will affect mouse performance.
Wi-Fi Interference
Interference with the Wi-Fi may boost the mouse's signal strength to reach a stable connection, but also drain the battery faster. Check the surrounding area for wireless devices that could be interfering with the mouse connection and shut off or move other wireless devices away from your mouse. This may only help minimally.
Faulty Battery
If none of the previous instructions seem to be helping then a battery replacement may be the best option for repair. To replace the battery follow this guide: Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse Battery Replacement
