Arlo Pro VMS4430 Battery Does Not Charge
The Arlo Pro (VMS4430) cameras have a common issue where the battery fails to charge when plugged in, often because it requires a specific Quick Charge 2.0 protocol (9V) to properly "kick-start" the charging process, especially if the battery is fully drained (below 15%).
LED Does Not Illuminate During Charging:
- Verify the power source. Plug another device into the same outlet or power adapter to make sure the outlet is working. If it isn’t, try a different power source.
- → See our full guide on Supported Arlo Chargers for compatibility details.
- Inspect your charger and cable. Make sure you’re using the original Arlo charger and cable that came with your camera. Third-party accessories may not provide the correct voltage.
- Reconnect the charger firmly. Unplug the cable from both the camera and the adapter, then plug them back in until you feel a secure click or connection. The LED should briefly flash blue to confirm power.
- Check the Arlo app for errors. Log in to your Arlo account and check your device status. If you see an error message like “Charger not recognized,” your camera may need a restart or firmware update.
- → See How to Restart Your Arlo Camera for step-by-step instructions.
Camera Not Maintaining Charger Connection:
- Confirm the charger icon in the Arlo app. Log in and open your camera’s device settings. A small charger icon should appear next to the battery percentage when charging is active.
- If the icon disappears. Gently wiggle the cable at the connection point to check for looseness. If the LED turns off or flickers, your cable or port may be damaged.
- → See How to Inspect Your Arlo Charger and Cable for Damage for visual reference.
- Try another outlet or power adapter. Intermittent charging may result from a weak or fluctuating power supply. Using another adapter can help isolate the issue.
- Restart your camera. Power cycle the camera by removing and reinserting the battery, then reconnect the charger. Wait for the LED to briefly flash blue again.
Dirty Ports
- Inspect the charging port and battery contacts. Look closely for dust, lint, or greenish corrosion on the metal surfaces.
- Clean carefully.
- Dampen a cotton swab or microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher).
- Gently wipe the contacts and let them dry completely before reconnecting.
- Avoid using sharp tools or blowing compressed air directly into the port.
→ See Cleaning Your Arlo Camera Contacts for detailed instructions.
- Reconnect and test. Once fully dry, reconnect the charger and verify that the LED flashes blue and the charger icon appears in the app.
- Clean carefully.
