ArmorAll AA255 Troubleshooting

Utility Wet/Dry Vacuum, 2.5 gallon, 2HP.

You flip the power switch, but the vacuum won't turn on.

Check to make sure the vacuum cord is plugged into a working outlet.

If your vacuum is plugged into a working outlet, but won't turn on, check to see if the cord is functional. Look for exposed wires or a loose connection where the cord enters the vacuum unit. If you need to replace the cord, refer to this guide.

  • Make sure to unplug the cord before inspecting for damage. Failure to do so may cause serious injury or death.

If the vacuum won't turn on and the undamaged cord is plugged into a known working outlet, the power switch may be faulty. If you need to replace the switch, refer to this guide.

If the vacuum won't turn on, the cord is not damaged, it is plugged into a working outlet, and the power switch is functional, the motor may be faulty. If you need to replace the motor, refer to this guide.

While the vacuum is on, there is dust coming out of the vent on the back of the vacuum.

The filter is not installed. Remove the orange top of the unit from the black canister and install a cloth filter whenever using the vacuum to suck things up in a dry environment.

The vacuum leaks whenever you suck up water.

There is a crack in the black canister of the vacuum. Find crack and if small enough, cover with a strong adhesive/tape. If crack is too large, then replace the canister.

The vacuum turns on but does not suck anything up.

If the filter becomes so clogged that no air can get through it, the vacuum will not have any suction even though it is on. Remove the bottom of the unit to see if this is the case. Empty the unit of debris and dust and clean the filter as necessary.

This vacuum is equipped with a plastic ball float which blocks the intake to the motor if the vacuum is tipped over or a large quantity of water has been sucked up by the vacuum. This is a safety mechanism designed to prevent water from entering the motor. In order for the ball to drop back down to allow suction once again, the vacuum must be turned completely off, set upright, and emptied of any water.

If the vacuum turns on but has no suction power despite a clean filter and the intake not being blocked by the float ball, check the hose for any issues. Make sure it is plugged all the way into the correct hole (front of vacuum for sucking, back for blowing). Check to see if there is any debris blocking the hose. Examine the hose for any damage through which air might escape.
