Asus Chromebook C300MA DB01
Laptop manufactured by Asus, running on Google Chromebook OS. Released June of 2014.
Laptop won't turn on
There is no response when attempts are made to start the device.
Dead battery
There is a chance your battery is simply dead. Try plugging in the power adapter to the laptop and let charge for five or more minutes . Open the laptop and attempt to press the power button. If the laptop still doesn’t turn on, there is likely a battery malfunction (see Battery will not charge below for details).
Laptop Has CPU Issues
If plugging in the adapter does not fix the problem, this may mean that there is an issue with the CPU or motherboard, which will need to be replaced. “Follow the guide for installing a new motherboard.”
Battery is Not Charging or Laptop Won’t Function When Unplugged.
Laptop only uses power adapter for power supply and cannot function untethered from a power source.
Charging Port Dirty or Damaged
If the Chromebook will not charge, it may be due to dust or debris in the charging port. Consider using compressed air or gently blowing into the charging port to try and free any loose debris that may be preventing the adapter from properly connecting. If this does not work, test your battery and power adapter (see Power Adapter is Faulty Below and Battery is Faulty) and if both are functioning properly, consider replacing charging port. “See guide for replacing ports.”
Power Adapter May Be Faulty
Make sure the power cord is completely connected to the Chromebook and does not feel loose. Check for the battery icon on the desktop to see if the battery has begun charging. Attempt to disconnect and reconnect the power adapter a couple times. If there is still no response, try to plug the power cord into a different outlet and see if it works. Attempt to procure another power adapter to see if yours may be the issue. If the new power adapter works, consider buying a new power cord.
Battery May Be Faulty
The battery itself might have gone bad and needs to be replaced. To check this, take the battery out of your laptop, then connect your power cord to the laptop and a power source without the battery. If your laptop turns on, then the battery in your laptop is damaged. To resolve this issue, the battery will need to be replaced. "Follow this guide for replacing the battery of the laptop".
Keystrokes Are Not Registering
Attempts to enter text using the keyboard are unsuccessful.
Keys Are Dirty or Sticky
If you are trying to type but keys are not registering the key strokes, try cleaning the keyboard to remove any substances such as dirt, dust, or dried liquid. Once thoroughly cleaned, attempt to type on the keyboard. If the keys are still not registering, try pressing down in the exact center of the key.
Faulty Keyboard Sensory Pad is Not Responding to Keystroke
The keyboard sensor pad underneath the keys may have shifted. Try striking the key dead center. If the keystroke then works, this means that the sensory pad may have shifted . To fix this, you will most likely need to replace the sensor pad under the keyboard. "Follow guide for replacing sensory pad."
Key is Broken or Missing
If the key happens to be missing or seems to be loose, first check the sensory pad below the keyboard by following the instructions above. If the sensory pad seems to working correctly, then the key itself may need to be replaced. Follow this guide for replacing the keys.
Poor Screen Quality
Laptop display is limited or non-existent.
Possibly Faulty Brightness Keys
Sometimes your display is working perfectly but your brightness keys have it stuck in a dim setting. Check the brightness keys located at the center top of the keyboard. If the keys are not responding due to keys feeling unsteady or sticky, please see the section labeled "keystrokes not registering."
Cracked Screen
Visually inspect the screen for physical damage such as cracks and black spots. If there is damage, this will cause a problem with the screen display. If the damage makes the laptop unusable, the screen in its entirety will have to be replaced. "Follow guide for replacing the screen."
Poor Pixel Quality
If the brightness keys on the top row are connected and functioning correctly, then the problem lies within the screen. Damage to the screen will cause issues to the pixel functionality, which in turn corresponds to screen quality. Replacing the screen is recommended. "Follow guide for replacing the screen."
Poor Audio Quality
Laptop audio is limited, distorted or absent.
Audio Drivers not Functioning Correctly
Drivers are software components that tell the laptop when there is audio and how it needs to be output. Sometimes these software components are faulty. Go to the start menu, then Control panel, then device manager if any devices show a exclamation point or hazard sign click on that device. This should then open up the properties of the device where you should click playback and then follow the troubleshooting procedures on your screen.
Possibly Faulty Volume Keys
Just like the aforementioned brightness keys, your volume keys could be keeping the volume down. Check the volume keys located at the right top of the keyboard. If the keys are not responding due to keys feeling unsteady or sticky, please see the section labeled "Keystrokes not registering."
Distorted or Absent Audio
If the keys work and you are certain that the laptop is not muted but your speakers continue not to work, than your speakers are likely broken. In this case the speaker will need to be replaced. “Follow guide for replacing the speakers.”
Laptop is Starting Incorrectly
Laptop either won’t start and/or freezes on a blue screen or updating screen.
Stuck Installing Update
Did you just update your computer? There is a chance it is stuck reinstalling old drivers and other software resulting in a loop when starting. Press the F2 key until you get a boot menu and you can either start in safe mode or revert to a previous start up and avoid installing faulty updates.
Blue Screen Present With no Update
A blue screen is a failsafe for the laptop when something goes awry in the starting process of the laptop. If this screen shows itself, first attempt to reach a boot menu and restart your computer. (see stuck installing updates). If this is unsuccessful, then your motherboard, aka CPU, will need to be replaced. “Follow the guide for replacing the motherboard.”
USB, HDMI, Battery Charging Port, or SD Port Not Working
Devices that you plug into the laptop are either not being recognized or are not functioning correctly.
Devices Work Sometimes or the Connections Seems to be Loose
If something doesn't feel right when you insert a device, if it wobbles in the port or won't fully insert, you should check the connections on the port internally, take the shell off the laptop and be sure that there are no loose wires or poor connections on the port you are attempting to use. “Follow guide to removing shell from laptop”
The Port Does not Work at All
If your device seems to fit snuggly but your devices are still not communicating with the laptop, your connections are likely sound but the port itself is damaged. If the connections are sound and the port still does not work, it will need to be replaced. “Follow this guide for replacing any port on the laptop”
