Will Not Turn On

The computer will not respond or show any sign of powering on.

Powering On Issues

  • Computers can sometimes just shut down randomly or not even turn on. One reason why this happens is because your power supply might not be working correctly. Another reason could be that you may also have some faulty/damaged cables. It’s always good to test your equipment to see where the power issues may come from.

Charging Cable is not Working

  • The charging cable being used to charge the laptop is damaged or not plugged in properly. Ensure the charger is plugged into a power source and the other end into the charging port of the laptop.

Faulty Power Supply

  • The power source the charger is using to charge your laptop is not reliable or working properly. Make sure the main power source you are using (such as a wall outlet or power strip) is not damaged or broken. If you did find that is broken, replace it.

Screen Flickering or Glitching

Screen may be dead and or disconnected from the laptop’s motherboard.

Damaged LCD Screen

  • LCD screens can get damage from overuse, drops, and excessive heat. If the LCD screen is damaged then the LCD screen must be replaced.

Loose Display Connector

  • Screen may be glitching and or not displaying anything. If this is the case, the display connector might be loose or not taped down. Try opening the screen and locate the display connector to make sure it is connected all the way.

Loud Fan/Overheating

You may experience the keyboard is getting warm or even hot to the touch, or abnormally loud fans.

Dust in Fans

  • Computers can overheat due to excessive dust and other materials stuck in the vents or fans.

Blocked Heat Sinks

  • If your computer is overheating, this may be because the laptop's heat sinks are blocked. Try setting the laptop on a surface that allows ample ventilation room.
  • Check if the heat sinks are blocked by debris or any blockages. If there are any remove them from interfering with the heat sink.

Touchpad Not Responsive

  • The touchpad is unresponsive and trying to move the cursor and does nothing.

Dirt Buildup

  • The touchpad may have enough dirt and other unwanted material to mess with the touchpad's functionality. If this is the case a can of compressed air can be used to clean in between the loose parts, getting rid of any unwanted debris. This touchpad can also be cleaned with a damp wash cloth.

Audio not Working

The computer is not playing any audio.

Broken Speakers

  • If speakers are not working or have static sound you must open the inside of the computer and check if speakers are damaged or dirt build-up.

Outdated Sound Drivers

  • To check your drivers and sound settings. Navigate to Windows/Control Panel/ Hardware and Sound/Devices and Printers/Device Manager/Your sound Card Device/Driver/Update Driver. This should update the driver so audio can be heard.
