The lights come on and the motor doesn't turn. I thought it was just a contact issue. The max button lights along with the small power light. But still nothing.

Hey! did you ever find out a solution to this problem you listed? Same friggin’ thing with my handheld and it’s so frusterating! :(

I found the solution to it ‘shutting off’ after a few seconds is to WASH the tiny blue filter at the top. Pull it out and rinse under Warm water using dish soap to scrub the filter….you should see black dirt rinse out. After it dries thoroughly (about a day) reinstall and it will work as normal. I keep an extra filter on hand so I can swap one in while I wash/dry the other.
Good luck!

My experience exactly. I don’t know if it’s a charging issue or a battery issue. Bit of a headache really, I can’t run down the battery so I can’t check the charger. The battery isn’t dead as far as I can tell because sometimes after repeatedly putting it back on charge 5 or 6 times it will run for 10 to 20 minutes

Most expensive vacuum we bought nothing but issues. Fusing sent us a new battery still won’t work. Bought a vacuum quarter price shark works great
rustyduck -
This is usually because there is a clog - either in the filter or somewhere else in the mechanism (sometimes where you can't see it unless you pull things apart). The battery is fully charged - but the vacuum detects a clog and stops the motor to protect it. You might only need to clean and wash the filter, but if the clog is worse, there are some good videos online that show you how to disassemble and clean the whole thing. Like this one: https://youtu.be/UafhshE0Th8

I thought I had a bad BATTERY since my DYSON MAX (came with purchase of and RV or was it the other way around?)—Annnyway machine would run for a few seconds and shut off. No matter how long the charge. If I disconnected the entire end of the vacuum (no attachments) it ran GREAT! I checked the underside of the floor attachment and roller was clean, saw i little dust on the rest but as soon as I put them together the machine kept running for 5-8 seconds at a time and that was it. I decided to remove the roller and what I found that although I had been cleaning the roller on a regular basis the CAVITY BEHIND THE ROLLER and under the squeegee plate pet hair has been building up for years. I have had the squeegee off before but never noticed the cavity under the ridged part where squeegee attached. It had ounces of hair causing a loss in suction causing the machine to shut off. It really seemed like a battery issue. I was amazed at how well it has been working since. Learn something everyday I guess.

My Dyson V6 Absolute is 2y 7m old. After charging it only goes for half a minute then just dies. The Dyson website says that the battery life should be 15 years. My next door neighbour has the exact same problem with hers, is it a manufacture fault?? £60 seems an awful lot to pay for a replacement.

Probably a clogged filter. See the instructions in the article.

Ours appeared to have knackered battery, but read the manual, removed the filter (round purple, top of device) tapped out dust, removed debris, then carefully levered the filter off the plastic core and washed it under running water, loads of crap came out.
Now runs fine, so it's the cut out for a clogged filter not a duff battery……. For now ;-)

Had the same problem. cleaned the unit and even bought a new battery. Still did not charge. Here's all the problem was... the stick had a clog in it near the brush head. Once i cleaned the head... problem solved. Check to see if the unit will hold a charge without attachments on it. If it does... the problem is the attachment is clogged. Don't ask me why it would not charge with a clogged attachment, but so is the case.

After a couple of minutes working well, it just stops. Plug in the charger, unplug after a few seconds and it works again. Then repeats. Hopeless troubleshooting section on the Dyson site.
Robert Sparks - Antwort
i had the same trouble. remove the attachments and look for a blockage down by the head. You will have to remove the bottom piece of the roller attachment to remove debris. There is a little plastic screw. The vacuum will not charge fully if there is a blockage in the attachment. This should solve the problem. Trust me. I already got a new battery and that was not the issue.

My hand held dyson just failed me. It was kept charged for quite some time. Worked as normal until the battery went dead. Put it on charge ( blue LED steady light was on while on charge), until it turned off. Used it as normal operation for a little while- until once again, it stopped. Put it back on charge- but it refuses to charge. The blue LED light was flashing for about 2 seconds, then, stopped flashing.
I have taken out the filter to wash it. If it fails to operate, I will have no choice but to replace its battery. %#*@ sore, as I have not mishandled or abused this machine.

When a rechargeable battery is getting weak it cannot sustain full amperage draw (power). However it may still be able to run at regular power.
Rechargeable batteries can go bad if completely drained and left to sit in storage for a period of time. So keep it charged. If a battery goes bad you may try the suggestion below but do so at your own risk. Warning: do not try to recharge the battery with anything other than the proper charger or the battery may explode.
To JumpStart the battery apply DOUBLE the charge voltage but arch the connecting wires to you get sparks. Do not leave it connected. You just want to JOLT the battery or wake it up. Jolt it a couple times and try recharging. Repeat if necessary but be prepared to get yourself a new battery.

Motorised brush head would run despite the trigger not being pulled so had to take it off when not in use. No battery drain then either. When re-attaching, used to power up by itself, I could use it I guess until I was done then remove it after use to stop it continually spinning all on its own. Then it suddenly stopped working altogether. Vacuum part works fine, charges etc but motorised animal head doesn’t spin anymore. Test to to would be to feed 12v just the head to see if it still works. I’ve had it apart and cleaned it out, cleaned contacts and bent them out a little to see if it might have not been making good contact. I’ve had it a few years and it’s been flawless and the unit itself works fine otherwise. Such a shame it might have to be completely replaced. I can’t find a way into the PCB despite removing the star-headed screw just behind the trigger. Just doesn’t want to come apart at all which is frustrating if it’s something that can be easily replaced or a dry joint.

Desiree Mayer - Antwort
If you have an older model Dyson vac then either it is the battery not holding voltage or (check youtube) there may be a magnetic interlock switch at the bottom of the handle by the dump catch that may be the problem. If there is a wire there then this would indicate a switch. You can try by replacing the switch or magnet. Easy way to tell if there is a magnet present is to take a needle and move it around the area. If it seems to stick then there is likely a magnet present and also a switch. So if the catch is loose down there chances it is affecting the workings of the magnet. But I found that the battery didn't hold VOLTAGE - not CHARGE - is the likely culprit. Return the 'new' battery and let them know that the battery isn't holding voltage. .Best indication is that if you run your vac on low speed and it keeps running but switch it to HIGH and it soon quits is a good indicator. A weak battery cannot hold voltage on high drain but may be able to on LOW. Old or faulty battery!! Get a new / good one!!!

I bought by Dyson on Groupon. Apparently refurbished which I did not know. When I received it I called Dyson to get specific instructions to make sure I charged it long enough, how long should I leave it on the charger after usage. The lady instructed me to leave it plugged in eight hours every Sunday. I charged it it worked for about one minute. Then it would never hold a charge again. I called Dyson back after a very long conversation they sent me a replacement battery. Now the replacement battery will go blue to indicated is charging. When the light goes off as I understand it that means it is charged. It will power on but will not continue. I left it on the charger overnight and it continues to do the same thing. There are no clogs has never worked more than a minute. Dyson made it clear they do not do any repairs on vacuum cleaners but through Groupon as they are refurbished and you just take your chances. Any suggestions for me? Thank you so much and advance.
