Is your Garmin Drive 61 LM freezing intermittently while in use? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Faulty Battery
- To fix, acquire the battery needed for the device. The required battery is 3.7 V nominal, with a capacity around 1100 mAh.
- To Replace battery, first turn off the Garmin
- Open the case by removing the torx screws on the back and use a plastic pick or other device to release the clips
- After the back has been taken off, locate the small 2-pin battery on the mainboard and unplug it gently
- Now remove the battery from the Garmin, it is usually taped to the inside of the shell, so warm the area slightly and lift the pack without bending or puncturing it.
- Putin the new adhesive in the same spot the old one was sitting in and lay the battery on flat. Now plug in the connector into the battery.
- Snap back cover back on and replace screws.
Frozen Display
Acquire a 6.1-inch color touchscreen with dual orientation.
- Remove backing and Torax screws and release clips using a plastic pick or another small device.
- After you ensure the battery is disconnected, replace the screen with a LCD+ Digitizer.
- Then, remove the original screen and be mindful of glass shards that may come loose.
- Afterwards, life the ZIF/Latch for the touch and LCD ribbons and slide them out.
- Now, reconnect both ribbons and ensure they are tightly screwed in.
- Afterward, clean the LCD with glass cleaning solution or alcohol wipes and press into the adhesive with pressure.
- Finally, reconnect the battery, power it on before sealing the case, and snap the cover back on before replacing the screws.
Faulty Memory Card
The Garmin Drive device is also performing very slow, if at all, along with having trouble loading maps and directions. This could be a result of a faulty memory card in the device. This issue commonly leads to error messages, trouble loading directions and slow performance.
- Fully power off and unplug the Garmin Device
- Acquire the memory card required by the Garmin 61 LM. This is either a microSD or microSDHC with a capacity of up to 32 GB and must fit within the FAT32 format.
- Then, taking the back casing off of the device and replace the old memory card with the new one.
- Make sure the gold contacts face the device
- Finally, turn on your Garmin Device. It should automatically recognize the new memory card.
Unable to Acquire Satellite Signals
Sometimes, the Garmin Drive 61 LM will freeze when it is unable to get a satellite signal.
- Firstly, verify that the GPS simulator is turned off.
- Then, take the device away from parking garages, tall buildings and tall trees. These can prevent the Garmin from acquiring a signal.
- Finally, remain stationary for a few minutes to fix the issue.
Device Temperature and Overheating
The Garmin Drive 61 is overheating and this is an issue that may be the root of other problems too. The reason the device may be overheating could be for two reasons:
- One reason could be the power cord or source. If the device is plugged into the wrong cord or source, it will not get proper power and could be too many or not enough volts, causing it to overheat and freeze up.
- The Garmin Drive could also be from being placed in an area of poor ventilation that causes the device to malfunction. To solve this problem, place the device in an area with good air flow and avoid direct sunlight.
