Overheats

Computer is persistently overheating with every use.

Background Tasks

Operating systems often run tasks in the background while the computer is running. Some of these tasks are unnecessary and could be overworking the CPU. Close any unnecessary applications running in the background.

Faulty/Clogged Fan

Over time, computer fans can get clogged with dust and may not be pulling in much air. If the fan looks clogged with dust and if you do not feel much air being pulled in, then the fan is likely clogged. If you do not hear the fan running at all and there is no air being pulled in, then the fan is likely faulty. First try cleaning the fan. If this does not work, your fan may be faulty and you will need to replace it using the guide located here.

Running Slowly

Computer is persistently running slow with every use.

Virus

Computers often run extremely slowly when they have been infected by viruses. Use anti-virus software to detect if the computer has been infected. Use anti-virus software to remove the detected virus or send laptop back to manufacturer for servicing.

Hard Drive Failure

Hard drives tend to slow over time, but if the computer is extremely slow and files are starting to disappear, then the hard drive could be failing. Run SMART tests via a hardware scan to detect if the hard drive is failing. Replace the hard drive to fix this issue.

Not Powering On

When the computer is off and you press the power button, it does not turn on.

Battery Is Out Of Power

The battery may simply be dead. Plug your charging cable into the laptop and a power outlet. If the laptop turns on, then it was out of power. Leave it plugged in for at least 30 minutes, then unplug it and see if it stays on. If it does not, follow the next section.

Battery Is Broken/Faulty

Batteries degrade over time and eventually lose the ability to hold a charge. If the laptop will only stay on while it is plugged in, your battery may be faulty. To learn how to replace a battery, use the guide located here.

Screen Is Broken/Non-Functioning

If the power light is on, and the battery is still working, but the screen is still blank, your screen may be broken/disconnected internally. In this case the screen will require replacement.

Poor Internet Connection

Internet connectivity is either slow or non-existent.

Wireless Connection Turned Off

Your wireless connection device may have been shut off. Click on the Wi-Fi symbol on the toolbar in the lower right corner of the screen and turn Wi-Fi connection back on from here.

Wireless Connector Is Faulty

If the connection will not turn on, or is on but is consistently not connecting to any network, your device’s connector may be faulty. Learn how to replace it here.

Internet Provider Is Throttling Your Connection

Sometimes internet providers intentionally slow your internet connection. If your computer is functioning normally, you may need to call your internet provider and ask about the speed of your service.
