If your Sony SRS-XB21 will not power on, follow this page for possible solutions.
Faulty micro USB Charger
It may be a faulty charger that doesn’t actually charge the battery or allow it to power on.
- The charging port can be located on the bottom right under the rubber cap on the back of the speaker.
- Find a micro USB charger you know is working, and an outlet you know works. Plug the charger into the device.
- The charging light should turn on to show that the device is charging. If the device doesn’t charge or turn on after plugging in a good charger, it may be the port itself that has the issue.
Faulty micro USB Port (charging port)
When charging the device a light should appear indicating the device is charging.
- The charging port can be located on the bottom right under the rubber cap on the back of the speaker.
- Visually inspect the port of any dents or deformation; make sure that there is no lint and debris in the port.
- Plug in the micro usb into the charging port and wiggle the to see any play with the connection
- Once confirming the charging port works and the device is charging let the device charge for 10-15 mins.
- If the device still will not power on, there may be a problem with the charging ports or may need to replace the battery.
Faulty Battery
Batteries will always reach a point where they no longer work.
- If your device will not stay turned on without being plugged into a power source or will not hold a charge for a normal period of time the battery is most likely at the end of its life.
- Replace the battery to ensure a working device
Buttons or controls not responding
Unable to turn on or off the device nor turn up or down the volume.
- If the buttons are not responding, making the device unable to power on, try charging it first. The device battery could just be out of juice.
- You may need to clean the buttons inside the device. Take the speaker apart following a teardown or repair guide until you have access to the bare buttons on the circuit board. Clear the buttons of any debris using a soft dry cloth.
- If the buttons still do not work after cleaning, you may need to replace the circuit board.
Motherboard Failure
If all other software and hardware problems have been ruled out, the motherboard is the last step.
- Replace the motherboard
