I just unboxed my NEW Fixhub. Everything seems to work fine except for....
Is there some form of release for the tip? I saw a guy on line just pull it straight out. Mine doesn't do that. It doesn't rotate around or move in any way.
Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Oh dear, I'm sorry you had that experience. It appears that the residue that you saw is some remaining residue from the manufacturing process that caught between the metal sheath and the tip, causing the difficulty in removal that you've seen. By the time you've received it, it will have cured and should be totally safe to clean up as you have. You've taken the right approach, with gentle pulling (make sure to pull down near the base of the tip if you're going to use pliers to avoid crimping the tube near the heating element), and once the tip is removed, give it a good cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol (or the BW-100 that you used). Everything should be working fine now, but keep an eye out for anything suspicious.

Had the same problem, did the cleaning with alcohol, everything seems better now :-)

I took a micro fiber cloth, wrapped it around the end of the iron towards the handle and a SMALL pair of pliers and gently twisted the tip. It slowly came out. It came out with some fine white powder on it. I used some BW-100 and the micro fiber cloth to clean the iron.
I used a cotton swab and some BW-100 to clean the female end of the handle.
I repeated this procedure several times. I can now take it out by hand.
I did notice some scratches that kind of look like lathe marks just to the right of the "T" in IFIXIT on the iron. I don't know if that is normal.
I ordered two additional tips. I'll check them out to see if they have scratches on them.
