Will upgrading ram void my AppleCare warranty?

Just got an iMac 2017 4k, want to upgrade ram to 32gb with the fixit kit later on, was wondering if it would void my AppleCare warranty?

Thanks

Upgrading the RAM in your Mac will not void its warranty as long as you do not do any damage to the Mac during the upgrade.

Please note that the RAM in the MacBook Pro Retina Display cannot be upgraded.

Thank you! I do not have the MBP at the moment, I only have the iMac :)

@awscreo - WARNING! Do keep in mind this is one of the more difficult systems to upgrade the RAM. Its not designed for user upgradability. Unless you have the proper tools and follow this IFIXIT guide to the letter you have a high chance of damaging the display! iMac Intel 21,5" Retina 4K Display (2017) RAM austauschen make sure to use the correct tools and techniques outlined in the guide.

Hi @awscreo, Another WARNING to you is that One of the ifixit moderators removed my warning on Apple tips and referred you to ifixit tips, it's weird. But do careful before you do the upgrade.

Thanks guys. I did watch both videos from ifixit about the upgrade, it does seem to be quite a pain, but I used to build/upgrade computers for my home systems before, and hopefully won't mess anything up. Of course I'll use the proper tools (likely from ifixit), i'm just waiting on ram prices to drop a little bit, they are out of this world high right now.

Good luck, and keep us updated as well on this, thanks a lot!

Apple has cracked down on third party upgrades. Since this upgrade involves cutting into the machine, I believe it will void your warranty. Now the machines where you just open a door on the back, no.

Curious, I ran into this article, is there any way to be able to argue with Apple with this law? https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/...

Nobody said what Apple is doing is legal. The problem is, they probably have more attorneys than people you graduated High School with and they will use them. They are fighting the proposed Right to Repair laws tooth an nail.
