Engine lift failed at dealership

There is quite a bit of backstory here, but I'll make it as short as possible and try to just focus on the main points. My 2012 VW Tiguan worked great until on morning in January, when it did not start. I had it towed to the nearest dealership. The timing chain tensioner failed causing the timing chain to skip a step. This caused damage to the cylinder head as well, so that all needed to be replaced for a total of $7,300. There was no goodwill even though the warranty had just expired 3 months earlier. That repair took 4 months, and I got the car back for a little less than a week before taking it back to the dealer because of a significant oil leak and the AC was not working. The oil leak apparently was due to a bad rear main seal, and was not related to the work that had just been done. They needed to replace the condensor and exapansion valve or the AC. Total cost of that was $3,300. Now apparently they just found additional leaks in the compressor and the evaporator, which would cost $2,900 more to replace. And the sway bar is apparently getting old and making noise when driving. At some point while repairing the rear main seal, the dealership admitted in writing the the engine lift had failed and the engine fell, causing the engine mount and the bolts to bend and break. They replaced those parts. I'm just wondering what the heck I should do at this point. Corporate told me to work it out with the dealer or find a lawyer, but the dealer said that the best they can do is 10% off. Who should I talk to and what should I ask for? I'm just so confused, and I just want my car to work again. It's been 10 months and tonss of money and I feel so discouraged.

Thank you guys so much in advance,

Eric

Honestly I suggest consulting with an attorney. If there wasn't an oil leak when it was brought in and the ac worked then, then it is reasonable to assume they damaged it when it fell. 10% isn't enough. This sounds like they're trying to take you for a ride.

Thank you! If I spoke with someone else at the dealer, what do you think is fair to ask for at this point? I've never been in this situation and just feel overwhelmed.

@Eric Wirth sorry for the delay. I would tell them that it wasn't leaking when it came in, and your ac worked when you brought it in. Remind them you know it fell off the lift and have documentation of such. And that you need the damages repaired.

I would get a lawyer (as @brandon_k recommended) and demand a replacement engine at their expense. The problem is you do not know the full extent of the damage, until it occurs and then at that point you may have no legal recourse.

I wouldn't take a chance if it dropped. The only resolution I would accept is a replacement engine, and a refund on the prior repair attempts plus legal fees. They may blacklist you from the service department for that, but I wouldn't go back again if it happened to me anyway so I don't care.
