Upon its release, it was selling for around $350 to $450 per unit depending also on its storage space. A year or two after its release, it was slowly replaced by the 255 G8 Notebook. Refurbished parts were still being sold, which lasted around mid-2023. The device offers multiple storage options, including SSD and HDD configurations, ensuring fast data access and sufficient storage capacity. It is powered by an AMD A-series processor, providing reliable multitasking performance for everyday use. The laptop includes a 41 Wh battery, offering decent battery life for extended periods. It is lightweight and portable, making it suitable for students and professionals. This computer does not support touchscreen functionality. The HP 255 G7 is available in different configurations depending on user needs. It is a budget-friendly and user-friendly device that delivers solid performance for its price range. HP designed this model to establish a strong presence in a competitive and constantly evolving laptop market. The HP 255 G7 is part of HP’s business laptop line. Some of the failure modes it has commonly had are: no power, dead motherboard, black screen (corrupted BIOS), random reboots, fan failure due to dust accumulation, battery not charging, touchpad failure, application failure, and USB port failure due to lack of frequent updates. Keeping up with updates and maintenance will give the computer a longer-lasting lifespan. No known recalls for this device have been reported. This product was sold worldwide and not limited to a single region. In comparison with the older models, it has a relationship in the overall design and different processor. The HP 250 G7 had an Intel processor. The newer models had an upgrade in the processor to AMD Ryzen (5000 series) / 11th Generation Intel processors.

The HP 255 G7 Notebook is a 3.9-pound laptop with a 15.6" screen, in dark ash silver. However, some retailers identify the laptop's color as black. Furthermore, the laptop has a plastic chassis with a canvas texture. The laptop has a large HP logo in the center of the front cover. The HP laptop also has a DVD drive, 3 USB ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 RJ-45 Ethernet port, 1 headphone jack, and an SD card slot. It is comparable to the HP EliteBook 855 G7, with a 15.6" screen. However, the HP EliteBook 855 G7 has an aluminum chassis compared to the HP 255 G7 with a plastic chassis. Furthermore, the HP ProBook 650 G7 and HP ProBook 450 G6/G7 have similar characteristics; however, they are mainly business versions, usually running on Intel-based processors, as opposed to the HP 255 G7 Notebook running on AMD processors.
