Background
Introduction:
The HP Chromebook x360 14a is a convertible laptop, which can be used as a tablet or alternatively a laptop. “x360” stands for its 14 inch screen’s capability to be flipped back, turning into a tablet. Chromebooks have been very popular for the last decade but HP offers a less expensive version such as this laptop. The device offers all the features of browsing the internet, working with emails and using google docs for word processing and other functions of Google’s Chrome’s OS.
History:
The HP Chromebook 14a was made by HP and was first released on February 28, 2020 as a Consumer focused device powered by an Intel Pentium Silver N5000 with a base clock speed of 1.1 GHz. The producers called the Chromebook by its code name “booglet” which is used “to build recovery media for your Chromebook or to create a custom build of ChromiumOS”. (Chromebook.wiki, n.d.)
Performance:
The Chromebook x360 14a has RAM memory of 4GB and eMMC storage of 64GB. This is not great memory volume for something called a laptop but it is enough for performing cloud based tasks for which Chrome OS is famous. HP Chromebook x360 14 series laptops come with different CPUs such as Intel Pentium Silver N5000, Intel Celeron™ N4020, Intel® Pentium™ Silver N5030.
Usage:
The HP Chromebook x360 14a is often used for school purposes due to its ease of handling because of its lightweight (1.5 kg/ 3.30 lb). The users have reported several issues with this computer including low-resolution display, occasional freezing of touchpad, weak speaker quality, glare due to low brightness, poor webcam performance during video calls, USB hub or dongle necessary for multiple wired peripherals and difficulty to service. (Tozzi et al., 2022) (Reigns, 2025) (Cuevas, 2021).
Identification
The HP Chromebook x360 14 has various color themes. Most of them are silver in color. It has a silver keyboard deck and top shell. The Chromebook can be identified by the HP logo attached to the outer shell behind the screen; it is also present on the bottom chin of the display.
On both sides of the keyboard, there is a speaker. The laptop sits onto long rubber feet to avoid any damage like scratching on the surface. The device is plastic on the bottom, but the outer shell of the display is metallic. The display is solid, hardly can receive fingerprints or nail scratches.
The display can rotate 360 degrees turning it into a tablet, which is why it is x360.
The HP Chromebook x360 14a laptop comes in a box together with the following items:
- 45W USB-C power adapter and cord (the battery charging cord is light and small which makes it easy to carry.)
- Manuals and documentation
