The HP Probook 640 G4 is a business class 14-inch laptop that is designed for durability. This guide will walk you through how to safely replace the battery. A failing battery can cause short run time or failure to charge.
Before you start, be sure to power the laptop off completely, unplug the AC adapter, and remove all external devices. Work on a clean flat surface. Make sure you have all of the right tools and parts available.
If the battery appears to be swollen make sure to not press on it or try to discharge it. Handle it gently and be sure to keep it cool. Avoid puncturing the battery and never use metal tools to pry it out.
If your laptop only powers on while plugged in, shuts off at high percentages, or your laptop reports a poor battery health then a replacement battery is often the fix.
