Modern dryers have digital displays which convey error messages when parts fail or something is simply not right. Older dryers may not have digital displays and instead use a series of LEDs to signal that a component isn't working correctly. Diagnose your code below.
First Steps
Before undertaking any of the more time consuming solutions below, these are a few fundamentals to get you started.
- Make sure there is power at the wall outlet.
- Check if a household fuse is blown or if a circuit breaker tripped
- Check that the dryer vent is properly installed and clear of lint or obstructions.
- Check all connections before replacing components. Look for broken or loose wires, failed terminals, or wires not pressed into connectors far enough.
- A potential cause of a control not functioning is corrosion on connections. Observe connections and check for continuity with an ohmmeter.
- Connectors: Look at the top of the connector. Check for broken or loose wires. Check for wires not pressed into the connector far enough to engage metal barbs.
- Resistance checks must be made with dryer unplugged or power disconnected.
PF — Power Failure
Issue: PF flashes to indicate that a power failure occurred while the dryer was running. Press START to continue the cycle, or press STOP to clear the display.
AF — Restricted Airflow Condition
Issue: AF flashes if a restricted airflow condition exists. Check to make sure the lint screen is clean, the door seal is in place and the vent is not obstructed.
F-01 — Primary Control Failure
Issue: F-01 flashes when there is a primary control failure. Replace the machine control electronics.
F-02 — Keypad/ User Interface Failure
Issue: F-02 flashes when there is a stuck button or user interface mismatch. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode.
F-22 — Exhaust Thermistor Open
Issue: F-22 flashes if the exhaust thermistor is open.
F-23 — Exhaust Thermistor Shorted
Issue: F-23 flashes if the exhaust thermistor has shorted
F-24 — Inlet Thermistor Open
Issue: F-24 ******flashes if the inlet thermistor is open. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode
F-25 — Inlet Thermistor Shorted
Issue: F-25 flashes if the inlet thermistor is shorted. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode
F-26 — Motor Drive System Failure
Issue: F-26 flashes if there is a motor drive system failure
F-28 — Moisture Sensor Open
Issue: F-28 flashes if the moisture sensor strip is open. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode
F-29 — Moisture Sensor Shorted
Issue: F-29 flashes if the moisture sensor strip has shorted. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode
F-30 — Restricted Airflow Condition
Issue: F-30 flashes if a restricted airflow condition exists. This fault code will ONLY appear when in the diagnostic test mode. Check to make sure the lint screen is clean, the door seal is in place and the vent is not obstructed.
F-40 — Communication Error
Issue: F-40 flashes if the communication between the machine control and motor control is lost.
F-41 — Blower Motor Failure
Issue: F-41 flashes when there is a blower motor failure.
F-42 — Undervoltage Error
Issue: F-42 flashes if the motor control detects a voltage less than 90 VAC
F-43 — Undervoltage Warning
Issue: F-43 flashes if the motor control detects a low voltage condition. The dryer will continue to run at a set blower speed.
F-44 — Motor Control Failure
Issue: F-44 flashes when there is a motor control electronics failure
F-45 — Motor Control Speed Sensor Error
Issue: F-45 flashes when there is a motor control electronics speed sensor failure
F-46 — Blower Motor Error
Issue: F-46 flashes if the motor control detects an over-current or an over-torque condition
