Mixer Stops During Operation
While the KitchenAid is running the mixer stops, possibly with a loud grinding noise
Faulty Gear
Loose or faulty gear causes a seizure that stops operation and may need to be replaced. This could result from a faulty worm gear or bevel gear. If it's the worm gear follow our worm gear replacement guide. If it's the bevel gear follow our bevel gear replacement guide.
Not Enough Grease
Lack of grease causes the gears to grind to a halt. The gear housing needs to be opened, and food-grade grease needs to be applied.
Grease Falls into Mixing Bowl
Lubricating grease falls from the gear housing into the mixing bowl, usually while mixing a batch
Note: Grease will not harm food. "The grease is food grade and is approved for incidental contact with food prepared in the mixer, although it may discolor light colored frostings or mashed potatoes."
Separated Grease
Grease on the gears has separated due to high heat or lack of use. The housing must be taken apart and the bad grease should be cleaned out and replaced with new grease. Follow our bevel gear replacement guide to see how to access the gears. Once you have access to the gears, you can replace the grease.
Mixer will not turn on
When attempting to start the device it will not start
Outlet Plug
Faulty outlet plug does not provide power to motor. Follow our power cord replacement guide to see how to replace it.
Wiring
Wires leading to switch are unplugged, loose, or damaged. Open the device and check for damaged wires. Follow our speed selector switch replacement guide to see how the wires are suppose to look.
Operates Only at Certain Speeds
The mixer will only run at certain speeds and will either not work or work poorly at a specific speed setting.
Faulty Wiring
Wires leading to switch are unplugged, loose, or damaged and may need to be plugged in or replaced.
Faulty Switchbox
Speed-Selector is broken and in need of replacement. Follow our speed selctor replacement guide for quick and easy instructions on how to do so.
Difficulty Placing Beater into Spindle
The beater will not go into the spindle or gets stuck in the spindle and is hard to get out
Follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE88Frx2... which describes how to properly remove the beater.

My model is 6000 pro. It has everything fine, grease, gears and outlet plug. Just stop and restart after several seconds. What could cause that?

Please note: I am not an Authorized or Certified Kitchenaid Mixer Repair Person. I am an Electrical Engineer
If we eliminate the gears/grease/power outlet plug as possible problems, there remains one remaining part (maybe two parts). I’ve personally seen issues with the Speed Control Circuit Board. The Speed Control Circuit Board is the only circuit board under the top cover of the Kitchenaid Stand Mixer 600 Pro Series. There are a few reasons for this board to act up. One common issue, would be this circuit board over time would accumulate gunk in the area where the mixer’s speed selector is located. This gunk is usually residual amounts of whatever has been prepared with the mixer. Another issue with this circuit board may actually be a bad electrical component(s) on the circuit board. Replacing this circuit board may be the best option; Part #: KitchenAid 9706648 Control Assembly. I hope this is helpful.

We have had this mixer for over 5 years and it is so loud. I can’t hear the TV in the living room while my wife is using this mixer in the kitchen. We had the 4.5 qt before and never had a problem with noise.
When we first bought it, we had ordered it online. We thought it was broken so we went to Costco and bought another but it made the same sound out of the box so we took it back.
I find it strange that no one else has a problem with the noise because it is louder than my power drills and if you have to mix anything for any duration of time, it is literally painful to listen to. I have to leave the room. If you buy a power tool that is this loud, they recommend in the instructions that you wear hearing protection.
What is up with this and why is there no fix?

I have this same problem. I just bought the 600 pro and the first time I used it I had this loud squeaking sound. Did you ever figure out how to fix it?
Thank you, Lisa

No fix yet. I took it apart and regressed everything but no change.

I can tell you that there used to be a problem with the 6-quart professional mixer. It has a powerful motor and there is a gear box that translates the horizontal rotation force of the motor into the vertical rotational force. The gear box used to made out of some sort of high density phenolic which has problems standing up to the forces generated by the large gears inside. I know because I broke the gearbox while mixing heavy bread dough. I believe the newer gearboxes are made of metal. Kitchenaid cheerfully replaced my mixer even though it was out of warranty. Everything involved generates a lot of force and heat, which must be ventilated to the outside air. That’s why there is so much noise.

What kind of grease should I put to grease the gear.

What kind of grease to use on gear?

I just pulled mine out of drydock, as I haven’t used it for years, and it was screeching so loud that people left the kitchen. After about 15 minutes it did get a little bit quieter. Has anyone else had this issue? Will greasing it help this? Will KitchenAid replace mine? Any ideas?
so if I read correctly above, buying a new one won’t remedy this, correct?

Moms mixer is about 4-5 years old. With lockdown goin on my girlfriend has been baking a significant amount and using the mixer, nothing too intense that it shouldn't handle with ease. The issue is when you add an attachment and lift the bowl, once turning the machine on the motor runs no problem but the mixing head struggles to move, and there seems to be no strain on anything but the mixing attachment. If you lower the bowl so it can spin freely there are no issues. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

Adjust the bowl height using the screw that’s behind the bowl.

I had a random mystery screw fall out of the base of my Costco version of a Pro 6 quart when I was adjusting the bowl height. I looked at the parts picture online and couldn’t find out where it belongs. Originally there was no issue but recently it has started to give off a high pitched whine on top of the normal mixer sound and has started to click when under pressure. I’m wondering what’s going on and where the screw came from because it obviously belongs somewhere. I’m starting to think it’s more of an issue than originally thought. This mixer is only a couple years old and I have only really started using it regularly within the past couple months, which is when the screw came out.

Has anyone fixed or received confirmation that this is normal. I have a Professional 5 Plus and it wakes up the house when using it.

Melissa, read the above comments. It has a powerful motor that needs a lot of ventilation to avoid overheating and also has a gearbox that has a lot of metal-to-metal contact in order to translate the power from the motor to the mixing head. It could need lubrication but I doubt it.

My Kitchen Aid Pro 600’s head becomes very loose when I make dough withe the dough hook. I’ve learned to take this apart, removing the motor, exposing three screws. These three are getting very loose while using the hook. What’s a suggestion for keeping these three screws from loosing again? How do the pros do it?

My professional 600 mixer all of a sudden stopped working we’ve had it for only a year. It’s very hot to the touch and has a burning smell. I took the top cover off but couldn’t see anything wrong that would cause it. Any help would be appreciated.
