Try booting with the restore DVD (or CD) that came with your computer and boot off of it. Then proceed to go to Disk Utility and see if your HDD is still there.I fits there, its most likely corrupt, and you should do a Repair Disk command, but most likely its a goner so you want to buy a new HDD from ifixit or newegg.
