Perhaps the most common cause of this is a failure of a backlight which can be either an entire strip of a couple of strips.  While possible, the failure of part of the power supply can happen as well.  Without the specific model, I can’t post any replacement part numbers.  Please update this with the exact make and model and additional information can be posted.
