christopher.stollery this is commonly caused by a stuck lens. It is possible that teh lens mechanism got "knocked off" it's track or other grit getting into the camera mechanism. First I would remove the existing batteries and the memory card from the camera, wait one minute and then put the batteries and the memory card back and turn the camera on. If that does not work you could try a vacuum cleaner and apply some suction around the lens case. Some people swear by using a piece of paper around the lens area and move it around the gap to possibly dislodge anything stuck in there.
