My name is David Caro. I am a second Cal Poly: San Luis Obispo. My current major is Environmental Engineering.
I chose engineering because I’ve always had a fondness for math and physics, and when deciding to pick which type, Environmental Engineering seemed like a good choice to me. I’ve always wanted to be and engineer and this major seemed like a good step to be more environmentally aware.
During high school, my physics classes has several projects that we had to build. These projects helped grow my fondness for building things and understanding physics. For the first project we had, the students had to build a device that will launch a ping-pong ball over a certain height and to a certain distance. I have played with Legos all my childhood so I decided to make it out of Legos and any other things I could scavenge around the house. The finished project was made of a Lego base and a PVC pipe barrel. The launching mechanism was made from a spring from inside an old toy and a metal nail as a pin. Seeing my little cannon I made from nothing shoot the little ball into the goal was a very rewarding experience and made me love building things and taking things apart, just like how I loved to play with Legos as a kid.
At the time of writing this, I am deciding on whether to stay in the engineering field or become a teacher. If I become an engineer, I look forward to finding a rewarding job that test the knowledge that I’ve gained while learning the proper environmental standards that my field will require. If I decide to become a teacher, I decided to become a math teacher because I would love to share my knowledge and love for math with younger generations.
I hope to learn a lot about technical writing and the value of repairing the things I own while doing this project. I have helped build a PC before (see Projects below), but I would like to become more knowledgeable with computers and repairing them.
