Update - Following some trial and error, it turns out that nothing was wrong with my setup and there was no interference with other wireless devices in use. The culprit was the brand of battery used. The Duracell Ultra AA batteries were of very poor quality I am guessing and probably from as bad batch. Using Sony AA batteries since the past two weeks and the mouse battery level is still at 100%. With Duracell, I would have had to change the batteries twice by now.

I have been using the mouse on a PU leather desk-pad which is reversible - one side navy blue/blackish and the other a shade of yellow. So far, I have been using it with the darker side facing upwards so I have reversed it with the yellowish side upwards. Read somewhere that"using the mouse over a dark-coloured surface such as a black or dark blue surface can cause the battery to drain faster". Not sure how true this, but let's see? You mentioned that someone had a cordless phone too close to their setup. Hmmm, I have a few wireless things running:- (1) Wifi router Archer MR600 - two walls and a room away.
