SodaStream Source is Leaking During Carbonation

Is there gas or liquid leaking around the opening of your SodaStream Source’s carbonation bottle during use? SodaStream Sources are susceptible to a range of problems that could cause them to leak gas during carbonation, most of which are simple to fix. Check the following possible causes to identify and solve the problem.

Because the carbonation nozzle of a SodaStream Source produces some downward force during carbonation, some spray may occur if the carbonation bottle is inserted at an angle. Check to make sure that the carbonation bottle is completely upright and not inserted at an angle.

If the SodaStream Source’s nozzle is not fully inserted into the clear plastic carbonation bottle, the device will likely leak during carbonation. The noddle must be fully inserted in the carbonation bottle to avoid leaking during carbonation. When inserting the carbonation bottle, start with the bottle at a slight angle so that the top of the bottle is angled away from you and towards the nozzle. Then, straighten the bottle, screw it in, and gently push the lever.

The SodaStream Source is only meant to be used with plain water or unflavored carbonated water. Using other liquids like juice or flat soda can damage the SodaStream and result in a fizzy mess. Empty and clean out the carbonation bottle and fill it with cold, unflavored, carbonated, or plain water, and try to use the machine again.
