Sometimes, getting to the heart of an issue, is being pedantic about language.
A glitch, for all intents and purposes, is simply an error. This could be used to describe numerous experiences. So rather than detailing all the various causes in full, it’s pretty likely the issue you are having is discussed on another page, worded differently.
Screen issues usually come in two flavors—touch and image. In older iPhones, you may even run into issues with backlight. But it's important to bear in mind which system within the display is affected.
Touch Issues
The iPhone Ghost Touch page details how to handle unexpected or phantom touch inputs. Your phone may be acting as though you are swiping or selecting when you are not touching it at all.
The iPhone Touch Screen Not Working page addresses no touch input at all, or dead areas on the display. Whether the issue is intermittent or seems permanent, the causes are the same.
Visual Issues
Problems related to the way a screen appears or the quality of the image onscreen are independent of touch issues and covers a wide spectrum of things. Try to categorize the issue you're having more specifically. Is it flickering? Are the colors abnormal? Is it only displaying a bunch of lines?
- The iPhone Lines on Screen page covers what to do if your phone has lines on the screen. This could be a single green line, purple line, or multiple vertical lines of varying color. The issue may be constant or intermittent.
- The iPhone Frozen Screen page gives guidance for how to deal when your iPhone is frozen, or stuck on the same image.
- If you're experiencing issues with flicker, or there's no image on the screen (especially if touch appears to work properly) the iPhone Black Screen page will lay out the possibilities.
Ultimately display issues can be narrowed down to three things—the software, the display assembly, or the logic board. Even though these pages may cover more specific issues, the triage is very similar for all. And would likely cover other issues not specifically mentioned here.
