How to Determine Which Digitizer/Screen or Touch Panel?

When replacing the digitizer/screen in the ASUS Transformer Infinity TF700T, I noticed there are three options available: 5184 version, v 0.2, and v 0.1 (http://www.parts4repair.com/asus-transfo...). My table has touch panel version ELAN-3024-7053. How do I find out which replacement is the correct one?

I actually only need to replace the touch panel but haven't found just that part anywhere. Anybody know of a place to order it?

Thanks for the advice!

Hello Rebecca,

I had/have the same problem. To determine which version I needed, I took the pad apart. The version number is printed on the digitizer element - the flat brown/orange plastic filaments attached to the screen. You first have to move some sliders inside the ports that connect to the docking station, using a small screw driver ("-"; a "+" will not grip well) to push the sliders sideways until they click and an arrow shows. You can find more instructions here: Asus Transformer Pad Infinity Teardown

After that, I used an old credit card to detach the screen from the frame, since the screen is mostly held in place by double-stick tape. I also remember 4 small screws ("+") that I had to take off, though that may have been to remove the LCD underneath the glass panel.

You don't have to detach the digitizer from the frame, just look for the small white(?) print on it. One of the numbers there is the version of the digitizer. Mine was a 5148.

The 5184 version seems to be in high demand - I am still waiting to hear from a supplier who is trying to get one. Apparently the three different versions are not compatible, so you do have to make sure to order the correct one.

Good Luck!

does revision number matter? Ive found a few that are rev 2, but mine is rev 3

Brett,

I've spoken to Asus about this. They say that the rev does matter. The customer service rep I spoke with said that rev 2 might work but it might not give all of the proper functionality. That's as definitive as I could get them to be.

Mine is also rev 3. I wound up sending it to their repair facility in Texas for replacement.

*Warning*: The experience has been horrible. First, the rep I spoke with on the phone told me that they would not sell me the part so I *had* to send it in. They didn't log it into their system until 2 days after they actually received it. It took another 7 for anybody to actually look at it. After 5 more days, I online chatted with a representative who told me somebody would call me within two days. I waited 4 before sending complaint emails to a couple of different places. They got back to me within 24 hours after receiving the first email. The first rep I spoke to (prior to sending in the device) said the new digitizer (LCD + glass) would cost $70 plus labor. The actual cost they wanted me to pay was $201, plus labor. I refused to pay that much and told them to send it back to me unrepaired.

If you try the rev 2, please post here and let us know how well it works for you.

Best wishes,

Rebecca

All,

A note of caution: It is possible to replace the screen digitizer on the TF700T, but depending on what exactly you are ordering, it can be extremely tedious and messy. It may be worth spending the $200.

I too had to wait for a long time to get my 5184 screen digitizer to be shipped from China/Hong Kong, since they don't seem to be having these in stock (contrary to what many on-line shippers claim). I ended up paying about $120 for the part, which is "glass panel plus the (flat orange) digitizer cable". What was non included is the plastic frame to which the glass panel is glued.

When you take apart the tablet and the screen comes off, you will notice that the LCD is attached to a plastic mount on the back of the glass screen. The glass is glued to that mount, and it is *very* difficult to get it off. If you don't buy an already mounted digitizer panel (which I read somewhere exists), you will be in for a lot of frustration. The glass panel broke while I tried to pry it off, and I had to deal with plenty of sharp, tiny shards and fragments that I had managed to remove using a flat screwdriver as a chisel. If you go into this knowing what you are up against, you may be able to prevent a mess. Otherwise, you may want to just go with the ASUS repair. I think I would, if I had to do it over again.

Another word of advice: To detach the screen digitizer cable from the frame, you have to flip the small white bars forward/away from the cable, e.g., with a flat screwdriver, otherwise you will ruin the connectors.

Good Luck!

I have the same problem right now but I cannot find version 2 anywhere. The digitizer ribbon cable is marked TCL10D47 ver 0.2, and I found one seller out of China offering it. After purchasing it and waiting a month for it to arrive, I opened the box and looked at the ribbon cable to verify that I had the right digitizer. To my dismay I noticed that there was a sticker actually glued over the version number. After carefully removing the sticker, I found that it was actually version 0.1. Does anyone know if version 1 will work if the original was version 2? If it won't, can anyone tell me where I can purchase version 2? Thank you.

Someone at xda-developers confirmed his success in replacing a REV 3 with a REV 2:

-

I can confirm that the "5184N FPC-1 REV: 2" works on tablets that have a broken "5184N FPC-1 REV: 3" digitizer. Just fixed mine and it touching perfectly.
