This site is new ground for me but I’m an old hand at bringing new life to discarded items that others consider obsolete. Restoring smooth functionality to 19th century mechanisms like counterweight sash windows and skeleton-key locks is not just a satisfying endeavor but a connection to the craftsmanship of the past, when people took pride in their work and put their energies into making things of lasting value that could withstand the test of time. I get more joy from fixing old lamps and early-model household appliances than I could ever get from buying something new.

I created my first guide for iFixit as a project for a documentation course in my master's program in professional writing. It's actually been a lot of fun, and I've been thinking I might put some of my accumulated "trades" knowledge to work and create a couple more!
