Lens Stuck on Zoom

The lens in stuck in the zoom position and won’t retract.

Low Battery

Check the Battery Indicator (icon at top right of LCD screen). If indicator shows low charge, recharge or replace batteries, then turn off and on. If the lens doesn’t automatically retract. Press the Playback button on back of camera.

Dirt or Debris

Check carefully around joints in lens assembly for dirt or debris. Gently clean by blowing compressed air around the joints, then turn off and on.

Lens Retraction Mechanism Misaligned

Turn the camera off. Hold “Shutter” button at the same time as the “Power” button. This should cause the camera to auto-focus while retracting, hopefully re-aligning the barrel guide-pins. If this doesn’t work, gently twist the lens casing, until you feel resistance. This may realign the mechanism.

Note: If none of these work, the problem may be irreversible damage to the retraction mechanism, in which case the lens might need to be replaced. See guide for instructions.

Camera won’t take picture

When button is pressed, there is no indication that a picture is saved.

Low Battery

Check the Battery Indicator (icon at top right of LCD screen). If indicator shows low charge, recharge or replace batteries, then turn off and on.

SD Card Locked

Turn your camera off. Remove the SD card from the slot on the side. Move the switch found on the side of the SD card up (or to other position than that which you found it).

Button Stuck

Clean button around edges with contact cleaner. Press and release several times.

Camera turns off on its own

The camera turns on and then shuts rights back down.

Shutoff time is too short

The S760 has a feature that turns the camera off when not in use. Check that the shutoff time isn’t set too low. This feature can be adjusted, so try making it longer. To do so, go to “Settings”, click on “Power Off”, and choose at least 5 minutes (longer if you’d prefer).

Low Battery

Check the Battery Indicator (icon at top right of LCD screen). If indicator shows low charge, recharge or replace batteries, then turn off and on.

Battery incorrectly inserted

If the batteries are not aligned perfectly with the contacts, any jostling may cause the camera to shut off. Remove the batteries, and replace with new batteries (or recharge). Check to make sure they are correctly aligned with the metal contacts. Make sure the battery door is properly shut.

Jammed Lens

The lens can become jammed due to the batteries dying while it was still out. Alternatively, dirt or debris can cause jamming. Either way, the lens sensor may be sensing these issues and causing the camera to shut off. See "Lens Stuck on Zoom" above for some possible solutions.

Horizontal lines on picture when displayed on LCD

When picture appears on the LCD screen, there are horizontal lines on it.

Wrong Mode

Check to ensure that your camera is in automatic mode, and not in one of its manual modes. For example, taking photographing in night mode during the day might produce this symptom.

Stuck Shutter

To confirm that you have a stuck shutter, exit "Auto" mode, and turn the flash OFF. Then, looking down the lens, take a picture. You should see some slight movement in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If you don’t see anything, then you may have a stuck shutter. In this case, change to “Manual” mode and, in a low-lit room, take a picture. Open the battery door for 5-7 seconds and then shut it. Repeat this a few times until you can see the shutter move. If this doesn’t work, you may need to bring your camera to a repair service.

Damaged LCD

Check for any cracks or discoloration in the LCD. If your LCD is broken, there is nothing much to do other than replace it. See guide for instructions.

Power light doesn’t turn off

The camera will turn off, but the power light will remain on.

Low Battery

Take out and re-insert the batteries. Make sure batteries are correctly oriented. With the lens of the camera facing you, and the battery port facing upward, insert both batteries with the positive end facing upward. After batteries are in, close battery compartment and turn the camera on.

Light turns on but camera doesn’t

The power light will turn on, but the camera won’t.

Low Battery

Remove the batteries and memory card. The memory card is located in the battery port Allow the camera to sit idle for 15-20 minutes. Reinsert the batteries. Make sure batteries are correctly oriented. With the lens of the camera facing you, and the battery port facing upward, insert both batteries with the positive end facing upward. After batteries are in, close battery compartment and turn the camera on. Do not put in the memory card. Turn the camera on.

Damaged Memory card

Remove the batteries and memory card. The memory card is located in the battery port Allow the camera to sit idle for 15-20 minutes. Reinsert the batteries. Do not put in the memory card. Turn the camera on. If the camera powers up properly operates correctly, then turn the camera off, insert the memory card and turn the camera on. If the camera works without the memory card installed but fails with it installed then the problem may be a corrupt file on the card. If the camera does not power without the card then repair service may be required, see guide for instruction.
