Unresponsive Touchscreen
The Kindle’s touchscreen does not work consistently and does not respond to touch.
Dirty Screen
The touchscreen of the Kindle Paperwhite can be unresponsive if the screen is dirty or grimy. Thus, cleaning it with a soft fiber cloth may be all you need to get it back up and running. If the screen is excessively unclean where the dirt will not come off by wiping it with a cloth, an electronic screen wipe can be used to get the job done. It is recommended that you clean the screen while it is off, so as to eliminate the risk of the screen receiving inputs from your touch.
Battery is low
The battery life of the 3rd generation Kindle Paperwhite is capable of holding a charge of up to six weeks, depending on usage. Make sure that the battery is charged, otherwise the Kindle may become gradually unresponsive.
Inactive page refresh
One of the normal problems with the Paperwhite is the slow response time when it comes to turning the page. And once the user keeps trying to turn the page due to the slow response, the Kindle will become overloaded and freeze. To combat this, turn the page refresh setting on so that the screen refreshes every time a page is turned. To turn the page refresh on, go to Settings on the top right of the screen, then go to Reading Options, and then turn Page Refresh on.
Follow the steps below:

My 3rd generation kindle is unresponsive. If I plug it in, the yellow light comes on to show it’s getting power, but sliding the power switch has no effect for short or long (20 second) switching. While plugged in, the device won’t respond to holding down the “Home” and “Menu” buttons. Is there any chance that replacing the battery will give it life? Is there anything else I should try?
