Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (6th Gen) Troubleshooting

The laptop does not power on when the start button is pressed, and the device shows no signs of life.

Make sure the device is plugged in and the charge light is on. If the battery is bad, the computer will run when plugged into the power adapter, but will either have an extremely short battery life or shut off immediately when disconnected. Make sure the power indicator light is active on the adapter when plugged into a power source.

During use, the device is excessively heating and does not cool down. Programs run slowly; lines may appear on the screen.

Inspect ports for dust or other signs of blockages. Most blockages can be cleared by using compressed air to clean out the vents.

If the fan is functional, try cleaning out any dirt or debris that have accumulated on the fan's blades with an ESD safe brush and compressed air before outright replacement.

Make sure you can hear the fan running when the laptop is running hot. If the fan cannot be heard or seen moving, the internal fan is likely broken and should be replaced. Follow the steps in the guide listed here to learn how.

Sound does not come out of the internal speakers.

Ensure that audio is properly adjusted, and not set to mute. Then check that the internal speakers are set as the audio output.

If audio is still not playing after making sure volume and output is correct, this may indicate a faulty speaker. Replace the speakers using the repair guide listed here.

An error message is displayed and the current running programs on the laptop slow down or crash entirely. These messages could include memory errors, bad blocks, or unreadable files.

There may be an issue with the device’s RAM if they occur during high memory use and reflect errors with memory (streaming, graphics applications, gaming applications). Make sure the device is fully updated and install diagnostic software to check for issues. If difficulties persist, consider replacing the RAM.

If these crashes occur frequently during the booting process, or the errors reflect symptoms like corruption of the file system, inability to read or write files, or the inability to move files around in storage, there may be an issue with the device’s SSD. Make sure the device software and drivers are fully updated, and run diagnostics. If difficulties persist, consider replacing the SSD using this repair guide.

The Yoga Pen is not recognized when touching the screen; nothing happens when touching the screen with the pen.

Remove and reseat the Pen into its integrated slot 5 or 6 times. Wait 1 to 2 minutes for the Yoga Pen to charge. Launch the "Lenovo Pen Settings" utility by pressing the Windows Key and typing "Lenovo Pen Settings." At the top of the Lenovo Pen Utility, you should see a battery indicator icon; place the mouse over this icon to view the pen's battery charge level. To check the battery level in the future without going into the Lenovo Pen app, turn on "Show Battery Status" in the Taskbar. Once this is enabled, you should see the battery status displayed on the taskbar.

To pair a Yoga Pen with your PC, select the "Start" button, then select: Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices. Hold down the top button on your pen for seven seconds until the LED indicator flashes white, turning on pairing mode, then select the pen from the list of devices and click "Pair."
