No Response from the Display

The device is powered on but the display is not projecting output.

Faulty connection or a broken display

First and foremost, a manual restart is a good starting place.

If the restart does not clear up the issue, then consider it maybe one of the two following issues.

  1. If there is no response from the display this could mean that there is a faulty connection with your computer’s screen cable connector.
  2. No display could also mean that the screen is broken and needs to be replaced.

Both these issues can be found in this same guide.

Spontaneous Reboot

The device shuts down without any input from the user.

Pressure input being caused by a defective display

If the computer is experiencing an input that is not caused by the user then a defective display could be the issue.

  • Right-click on the Windows icon, go on Device Manager, go on to Human Interface Devices, right-click on HID-Compliant touch screen. This will disable the functionality of the touchscreen now you could use this as the solution but this will indicate if it is the display if the problem doesn’t persist.

Not updated to the latest software

If this proceeds to continue, then it could be due to a software issue so make sure that your device is running the latest software update.

No Touchpad Functionality

The device is powered on but the touchpad is not receiving input from the user.

Mouse setting is disabled

The most common problem that could result in the touchpad being not responsive or having no functionality, is that the touchpad needs to be replaced.

  • Before considering replacing the touchpad, check and make sure the mouse functionality is enabled in the settings. Go to the Start menu and type in “Mouse”. This will bring up the ability to change the settings, including enabling and disabling scrolling. Check there first in the settings to see if it is an issue with the settings.

Defective touchpad

If the touchpad does indeed need to be replaced, this guide can help with that.

No Microphone Response

The device is fully powered on but there is no audio input being received.

Audio settings software issue

If the microphone has little to no response, it could be because of the audio settings.

  • If one opens the Start menu in the bottom left corner, and types in “microphone” in the search bar, the audio settings for the Chromebook should be apart of the search results. Here, the user can see if the microphone is functioning by adjusting the input volume and other settings to see if there are improvements.

Hardware Malfunction

If there are no improvements to the input volume, then the issue is most likely a hardware issue, where this guide can help resolve this.

Battery does not hold a charge

The device is powered on but the battery life doesn’t last or hold a charge.

Faulty charger cable

The cable you are using to charge is faulty and in need of replacing. This is as simple as ordering a new cable. This device is fitted with a USB Type-C port for charging so purchasing a USB Type-C Power Supply Adaptor Cord would be recommended.

Battery malfunction

The battery itself could have been overclocked and now will no longer hold a charge. In this case, the battery will have to be replaced. This will require taking apart the computer as well. Use this guide.

Keyboard not responding

The device is powered on but there is no response from the keyboard.

A start-up issue

Shut down the laptop, then power it back on.

Minor software glitch with the laptop

While browsing as a guest, try using the keyboard during this time. If the keys work then, then proceed to delete the account that is having issues, and then add that account back again.

Hardware malfunction

If the issues continue to persist, then this guide can help fix these hardware issues.

USB-C Adapter not responding

The device is powered on but there is no response from the USB-C ports.

The port setting is not enabled

  • First, try plugging in a device with a USB type C adapter into the port if it prompts you on “You may be able to fix device” notification. Then follow the notification to run a troubleshooter for the hardware or to update your driver.

Defective Type-C port

  • This could be due to a hardware problem, in this case, you may have to install a new port into the device replacement for this part that can be found in this guide.
