Dell Inspiron E1405 Troubleshooting

My computer gets hot really fast.

Often when people use their laptop they forget that the fans are on the bottom of the laptop. Using your laptop on a bed or similar surface will often cause laptops to overheat. To solve this, simply move to a more appropriate surface or a laptop cooling pad.

In this situation, it is most likely that your laptop is overheating due to a buildup of dust or other particles in your fan. This causes it to work at an impaired rate. To fix this, try spraying compressed air into the fan, or blowing directly into the fan.

If none of the things above fixed your issue, it is possible that your laptop has a broken fan or heat sink, whether it be a faulty part or caused by some trauma to the laptop. When attempting to power on my computer, it will remain off.

Your computer could not be turning on because the battery is dead. Plug in the computer’s power adapter, and plug the other end into an outlet to charge to battery. After this has been done, either retry starting up the computer or check that the computer’s “charging” LED is turned on.

Your adapter may be broken, which would cause no power to reach the laptop or battery. You can check if power is being supplied by seeing if a similar power adapter from another computer works. If other adapters work, your adapter may need to be replaced.

My display is impaired or black.

If your laptop turns on, but is completely black, make sure your display is not turned off. To test your display, press the Fn button on the left side of your keyboard and press F2.

If your login screen appears and then your screen goes black, but you can hear the laptop turning on, it may be your operating system. First, try to restart your computer and see if the problem resolves. If the problem still persist, you may need a to repair your operating system.

My computer will not let me save any more files.

If your computer does not allow you to save additional files, you may wish to delete some unnecessary files, or install a larger hard drive. If installing a new hard drive, please refer to our hard drive replacement guide. Be sure to backup all files and programs before installing a new hard drive.

If deleting files does not allow you to save additional files, your hard drive may be broken due to mechanical failure. Because hard drives are mechanical devices, they are prone to mechanical failure. If your hard drive fails you will need to replace it. Please refer to our hard drive replacement guide. Be sure to backup all files and programs before installing a new hard drive.

My computer is functioning, but it unexpectedly crashes and freezes, deleting unsaved work.

If your computer is running slowly, the first step is to run the fewest number of programs at the same time. To do so, close every application that you are not currently using. Also, try closing tabs in your web browser that you are not currently using.

If closing some unused applications does not speed up your computer, the laptop may need to be restarted. Sometimes background processes may be running on your computer that are unnecessary. Restarting your laptop will automatically close all programs and processes. Closing these programs will allow RAM to reset and be available for other programs.

If rebooting your device does not speed up your computer or prevent crashes, you may be experiencing a RAM issue. If Windows does not start showing error messages, you receive a blue screen, or programs start crashing unexpectedly, then the RAM currently installed should be replaced.
