Thank you for the disassembly walk-through. I just replaced the right mouse button with an OMRON D2FC-F-7N and it is a little more firm and makes a little more click. I also had some D2FC-F-K on order but I was impatient.
I was able to swap the original hard drive for an SSD, but had to modify the hard drive mount to account for the smaller drive size and screw size. I installed CloudReady from a USB, so now the kids have a Chromebook-like computer that they can use to access their school work with less distractions. (Not “No Distractions”. They are still attached to the internet.)
My father-in-law‘s battery swelled up so it already popped the screen open for me before I got to work. The battery hadn’t caused any other damage so all I needed to do was to replace it. Thanks to the description of what each of the connectors is for on the display, I was able to troubleshoot when I couldn’t get half my digitizer to respond and I had to go back and reseat my connectors. Now it’s working 100%.
I was already planning to change my screen when I saw the issue with the microphone was the same problem I had. Glad I only had to open the iPad once and did the microphone at the same time. The microphone replacement doesn’t have extra foam pieces for under the camera, so take your time removing the camera and try not to rip the foam too much. You can see a small C-shaped piece of foam attached to the microphone assembly on the step for removing the microphone. I warmed up my iOpener and placed the old microphone on it to soften the adhesive on it and transferred it to the new microphone.

I am wondering if it is possible to heat up the top of the iPad with the iOpener earlier and remove the microphone and camera at once, and then reheat the bottom of the microphone to soften the adhesive so you don’t have to tear the foam between the camera and mic.
I just finished this repair, and the biggest issue I had was removing the screen because it was so cracked. I could not follow any of the instructions for the removal of the screen as I could not get a suction cup to grip along the side, and when I tried applying clear packing tape or duct tape, the tape just pulled off the screen instead.
One part I do not like about the “To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.” line is there are a few points that could use some info when putting it back together. There is no comment about the adhesive strip across the flex cables and how it is supposed to bend over.
I installed the battery, and double checked one of the battery connectors before closing it up. Once I got it all together, I plugged it in and it showed the REALLY low red battery with the lightning logo. So I waited, and read a couple comments, and people were turning on their iPods right away, but mine wouldn't give me anything but the REALLY low battery. I started to get worried, and looked up a couple other answers. After about 5 minutes, the silver Apple logo popped up and I was relieved.
Just remember to have a little patience.
